Re: share shaw tv account
Apparently because of some satellite changes for Direct TV it is now a usable system with a 2.4M dish. But thats about all I know.
Another area I haven't looked into, mainly because of my own internet problems is "Internet TV"

Yes, Internet TV is something I am also exploring. Looks good and cheap if you get get fast enough download speeds OR you can download and watch later. There is also the "slingbox" technology which you can feed off a friends system NOB. It can be either satellite or cable. Again you need the faster download speeds.........
Re: share shaw tv account
Hey Bob, I'm running a Slingbox down here with the DSL from Telmex and it works fine. You just have to make sure wherever you are feeding from (ie. the cable provider) that the provider doesn't have caps on the uploads. Because if you're watching a lot down here, the upload is going to be significant, and some providers will start restricting the account due to the uploads exceeding the caps.
But, anyway, slingbox works with the DSL.

That's great news Juan. I assume your feeding off a friend NOB? Why does it need to upload (send back) so much data?

Again Is the PVR unit the one that gets rid of the commercials?

It records the commercials but you have the option of fast forwarding past them.

Yes, PVR stands for "Personal Video Recorder". The satellite (or cable) box has a large built in hard drive so you can record your shows then skip through the commercials when playing it back.
Re: share shaw tv account
As I understand it, the Anil G1 will be co-located with the Anik F1R at 107.3 degrees but will operate in the Ku band at higher frequencies. In order to receive those higher frequencies, it means you would need a new LNB on your dish.
So the real questions are:
1. Is Shaw going to replace all of the LNB's that are on the dishes of every HD customer they have? Probably not.
2. Will you need one of the new 600 series receivers to receive the HD signals coming from the Anik G1? Yes, it will be using only MPEG4 video compression which is not supported on the previous generation 5xx series receivers.
3. Will we be able to get signals from the Anik G1 Lakeside? It does not appear so as the spot beam will have a footprint cutoff close to the US/Canada border.
So my take on this is that they will need to keep the current channels they have on the F1R and footprint from that bird as it currently is for many years until such time as all of their subscribers have new dishes/LNB's.
Anyone have a different take on this?

Pete Johanson posted this on another LCIL Forum yesterday:
"I haven't heard anything new on the December launch. They say this is a third satellite so that they can add new channels and that it will not be replacing one of those already up there. And this is an important point because the footprint map shown on several of the satellite forums suggest that this new satellite will be like DISH and DirecTV and will only be easily viewable within a few hundred miles of the US Canada border.
Yet when I checked with Shaw Direct and with my dealer on Vancouver Island, they both said. No problem. The signal will be the same in Mexico as from the other two satellites.
I'll check again within the next couple of weeks and if I learn anything more definitive I will let you know.
Edit, more information: To pick up this satellite, you will need a new LNB (the electronics in front of the Dish). But there is no point in getting it until we know whether or not the signal will reach us.."
