Oyster stuffing, hold the turkey...now that is my idea of a fine meal. My dad used to harvest them in Apalachicola bay in Florida. We made oyster stuffing with the ones that were to big to eat in one bite. . The best was slurping them out of the shell while sitting on the boat on the way back, chucking the shells back into the water. *I could open an oyster by the time I was 5...my dad was just so proud of that talent and always made me show it off.

Once I got awful sick after eating raw oysters back in the 80's . I have the unfortunate dietary habit of consuming little or no alcohol and my family is quick to point out that this is the reason that I was the only one to get ill. My dad has always maintained that the oyster was fine, I just got a bad cracker.

Exactly. What the hell do they know if they feed corn to goats? Unless they want dead goats.]

Dawg never raised nor became familiar with a goat Seisdedos. I don´t know what they eat besides tin cans and rat turds but they are mighty tasty when barbequed. We eat goat stew in both Jalisco and Chiapas in different preparations as I´m sure you know and those were definitely dead goats now transformed into human scat.

Actually, may I remind any readers still with this thread that I only started the "cornbread" thread to sabotage the seemingly eternal "rye bread" thread that seemed to have gained the half life of a cockroach in a bakery at midnight.

The truth is, the best Jewish deli in the United States circa 1955 was in Montgomery, Alabama serving fabulous pastrami sandwiches on pumpernickle. We used to order them there and take them over to the city´s principal urban sanctuary known as Oak Park and pig out (pardon the expression, Jewish friends ) on those sandwiches sitting on a park bench watching ducks and other fowl swimming about in the park´s attractive lake. One day, we had quaffed our sammiches in the company of our African American baby sitter, Manty May, and proceeded to disperse to areas of the park to play while our mother went shopping in Downtown Montgomery and the local cops strolled up to Manty May and inquired, rather rudely, as to what her "negro" butt was doing reposing on a whites´ only bench in Oak Park and had not we two white children re-appeared from activities upon the lakefront thereby affirming her right to even enter Oak Park as a hired monitor of white children, she would have been summarily escorted to the Montgomery County lockup.

Don´t worry about what meat makes the best sammich but the human condition. After all, if meat becomes scarce enough, you yourself may become the pastrami sammich of the future.

My Mom made corn bread with shortening, lard, bacon grease (don't remember) and baked it in an iron skillet. The first time I tasted corn bread sweet almost made me sick and couldn’t eat it. I now think of the Jiffy corn bread mix (which I like) as a sweet treat for breakfast. If I were going to have beans & hammock, cat fish, no way would I have the “sweet corn bread”.

Having sweet corn bread with beans & hammock or cat fish is just like having croissant with your meal. Croissant are for breakfast with cafe au lait not for the meal!!
