Re: Worst Steak
I believe he's talking about the one on the Libramiento behind the Pemex...closed to Lake Taco. It is actually called The Ajijic Meat Market.

Re: Worst Steak
New York steaks. I thawed them like I normally do and cooked them on the BBQ like I normally do. The steaks were just tough. Maybe a bad batch.

Re: Worst Steak
I am not sure where Ajijic Meats gets it's product from but I find a lot of the beef here to be tough because it is not aged long enough. Sometimes I will bring it home and let it sit in the refrigerator for 5 or 6 days before cooking. That seems to help.

Thanks for the correction. My bad.
Sunsetkid...you still didn't say HOW you thawed them...it can make a world of difference.

Re: Worst Steak
I have never had a good piece of Mexican beef. I have been buying my steaks at Costco for 11 years now and have never had a tough steak. They are always flavorful. To be sure Costco is very expensive, more than in the US per pound. Recently I have decided not to buy Costco steaks, but instead go to a restaurant where I can get the equal full meal served to me. Example: Hacienda Ajijic Steak Place and Bruno's.
All around Costco still has the best meats. Their quality control is excellent.

Re: Worst Steak
Slow in the refrigerator. What is a better way?
Probably right Canuck. I will try the aging process after they are thawed.
Thanks

Re: Worst Steak
We have actually had very good luck recently with the Sonora beef available at, of all places, Wally World. Really pretty good almost all of the time.
Freezing meat, and yes we all do it but it is better not to freeze a good cut of beef, because freezing bursts the blood vessels and all the juice comes out of the steak. Now for stewing beef or hamburger, no big deal. Marination also works very well. Arrachera is a good example.

I freeze all meat I buy so it kills all the bugs so we don't get sick.

Yes it does kill much but don't assume it kills all.
Laugh but you can also freeze your favorite clothes
for a week or so and they come out fresh so you
can avoid washing them and the damage from that.

Freezing clothes, I have to admit that is one of Heloises household tips I must have slept through. Does it really work? I usually hand wash the good stuff, but if there are no spots maybe the freezer can take on new life as a clothes freshener.

Put your dry clothes in a water proof bag and put them in the freezer for at least three to five days.
I have to admit as a stinky young male I used this trick more than once. Put in a stinky t shirt in a
baggy and throw it in your freezer for a week and pull it out and it won't stink. Hey better than spraying
deoderant all over your stuff which is what most young males do before a date LOL.

I have no idea who had a microwave when we were young. I wouldn't as it might cook
certain unnatural fibers and release gases better off kept in the plastico. Maybe ok with
a cotton shirt. Anybody know. I remember pulling a pair of pants out of the freezer and
putting them on cold. Don't remember much else. So new concept like microware ready
dishes, microwave ready clothes LOL.

Re: Worst Steak
Somehow, I'm picturing a scene like something out of "The Thing about Mary" movie.
You date shows up at the door, gives you a brief chilled hug and you check out the clean smelling clothes with spots all over them. I'll leave it at that!

Re: Worst Steak
Probably the most asinine solution to a problem that I have ever read! No basis in scientific fact and sounds like someone being flat lazy! Don't have money to go to the laundromat? Ever heard of hand washing? Don't have clean clothes or money to go out? Then stay home and wash your laundry by hand!

Re: Worst Steak
Does freezing kill bacteria?
"No, temperatures of 32°F or below will cause most bacteria
to essentially hibernate, and the bacteria will not grow, with a
few exceptions (Listeria monocytogenes has been known to
grow at temperatures as low as 28°F.) However, once a
potentially hazardous food is removed from the freezer and
allowed to stand at higher temperatures, the bacteria “wakes
up” and will start to grow again. Similarly, bacteria proliferation
slows down when refrigerated at temperatures below 41°F,
and will speed up growth when exposed to room temperatures
again."

Re: Worst Steak
I think I'll try it first on my most offensive piece of wearing apparrel...shoes.
So as not to regenerate the "bugs", will put them straight on of out the freezer...no microwave.
They wouldn't be any harder than those pieces of wood the Dutch wear.

Re: Worst Steak
Anyone who would even order a beefsteak in Mexico is so unenlightened as to not having been deserving of an opinion. This forum is a minefield of self disception snottily constructed upon unpleasant air. What a bunch of morons.
