Re: fm2 renewal
May be easy but you will need patience, new laws coming soon and everybody is trying to get theirs done under thye old system so expect long waits and a longer process for the next few months as the new system is implemented and people rush in under the old system.

Any expectation on when the new Residente Permanantes will be open to applicants? Any rumors/leaks on what the exact requirements (income levels, etc.) might be?

Re: fm2 renewal
There is some info but most is lacking, supposed to take effect Nov. 12th but there is still much they need to make public such as amounts and other things, we just need to wait and see for now.

Re: fm2 renewal
I was talking with an Englishman the other day in Manzanillo. He had just renewed his FM2 but had forgotten to take in new photos. He was having a hard time finding the photo studio in a mall in Santiago and asked for directions. Spoke very little Spanish. Said that the procedure was very simple and that if he had had the pics they would have given him his new document on the same visit.

Re: fm2 renewal
With the changes it is a madhouse, almost 3 hours wait in Guadalajara the other day and probably will not get any better for the rest of the year or next year until late January. All the madness started last week so stay tuned.

Re: fm2 renewal
Not difficult under current system but lots of people getting new documents and renewing so be patient and expect waits and hassles.

Re: fm2 renewal
Funny, the Englishman said they weren't implementing any changes. He was asked for the exact same documents as in 2011. That was this past Friday.

Re: fm2 renewal
New system to be implemented Nov 12 (on or after that date will be under new rules) mas o menos, many, many people are trying to get their stuff done before that, both in Chapala and Guadalajara.

Re: fm2 renewal
Why are people jumping the gun now for the 'old' documents??
We are on FM3's and would like to 'upgrade' to Residente Permanente....would there be any reason for us NOT to wait for the new visas??

Re: fm2 renewal
I advise them to do it now, if possible instead of having a time deadline to get new items they may require. Also under new rules you will have 30 days to switch from tourist visa to another document, what about people who have already been here 2 months? Better for people to have a year to sort things out then have to leave the country or scramble to get documents that may not be readily available or easy to obtain.

Re: fm2 renewal
You will be under the new system so start as early as possible, fees will be higher, no need to go to Guad but most likely a whole new application / start and we do not have all the details yet. No more renewing every year, you will be able to renew for up to 4 years if you get the temporary resident document or lifetime for the permanent resident document.

Rolly, what is the reason for cost difference? FM 3 vs FM 2... Does it take more time? I paid a little over 2000 pesos for FM 3.....now being quoted over 5000 pesos for FM 2?

Re: fm2 renewal
Is the local INM office still accepting applications to change from an FM3 (no-immigrante) to an FM2 (immigrante) at this time?

Re: fm2 renewal
Spencer,
What the total charge (govt fees and your fees) to go from FM3 to FM2? And, about how long is it taking.
