New Street Lights
Lot's of new street lights installed last week in Ajijic. They're white and bright. They're replacing the old yellow ones that looked like they were lit with candles! Urban improvements, who'd a thunk?

Re: New Street Lights
Sucks we got em Yesterday. I have to leave my blinds down now
to see the TV. Probably brighter and cheaper to run to be fair
to the city. The old ones were sitting on the corner of the plaza
yesterday. Very white light with a kelvin of about 8000. Not used
to this.

The old ones were only good for decoration. Our street is now lighted at night. We and our neighbors like that.

Re: New Street Lights
The new lights are LED. I am impressed that this little pueblo is investing in more efficient lighting. I have changed out my ceiling halogen to LED and the light is bright to say the least. I still will keep the halogen in other areas of the house to off set the white blinding light. I have heard that they are making improvements to the LED and will wait until they mellow a bit to invest in any more new bulbs.

Better tonight. Guess after the yellow light you have to get used
to the bright white. Still have to close blinds to watch TV. Street
is much brighter and it will save money. Still prefer old lights but
time does move on inspite of ourselves and our wishes.

No way they're LED. There are no LEDS made that could produce that much light. I'm thinking halogen.

Re: New Street Lights
Yes, I have a little LED flashlight that could land aircraft.......jaja. Very bright indeed. They are also installing LED traffic lights (which I have also seen around the lake).

Just got a set of binocs and looked at one close up. They are about 5" thick
about a foot long sticking out over the street. The bottom has a slight 10
degree angle rising on both sides to allow light to go farther up and down
the street. They are LED as you can see each unit inside the two panels.
One panel faces down the street and the other faces up the street. They
work vey well as streetlights.

Re: New Street Lights
Nicely done Zed..binoculars and all. Kudos to Ajijic..... From what I have seen, quiet effective and long lasting. Many famous landmarks use them all over the world. I havea couple for my homes. I will be bringing a few down with me when I can make it down. Soon I hope after Easter...

Sure get a creepy feeling walking down the main drag in Chapala with these lights... it's like being in a coldy-lit stadium.

Give it some time. I thought they were creepy
the first night I saw them. Now they are OK
except for I can read in my house at night
without turning on any lights.
