OK - that makes more sense. Of course, you can stil use your U.S. or Canadian based credit and debit cards to pay hospital bills in Mexico as was always the case. After all, these credit and debit card issuers pay for submitted billlings in the currency of the land from which they emanate and then collect from their clients after conversion to the local currency where issued. I´m amazed that any local hospitals ever took foreign personal checks or currency in the first place.

Interesting info and background, guys! Thanks for this, I learned a lot. A doctor friend had told me these stories too but I thought they were too far fetched to believe. Apparently not.
