IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Friends of mine were told by the Hospital Puerto de Hierro that they will no longer accept American or Canadian credit cards or checks. Since you must pay in full before you check out if you don't have insurance you must pay in pesos.

I think they're going to be losing a lot of business. They should wake up and realize that they're not the only game in town. Many other good Hospitals in GDL.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
We need this verified. Puerto de Hierro has two medical factilities. They, along with Hospital Universitario Dr. Angel Leano and Hospital San Javier, are owned by the family that owns UAG. I believe they own other medical facilities as well.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
My friend's wife had surgery at Puerto de Hierro 3 weeks ago. When they went to check out their method of payment, I am not sure which, was denied. They were told there was a new policy, which I previously stated. They were allowed to pay as they had planned because the policy was new and they had not bee apprised of the change when she was admitted.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
My question concerns the possiblilty of such a policy being applied to all facilities operated by the same owner.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
I don´t understand why this was a problem unless your friend tried to pay with a personal check drawn on a U.S. or Canadian bank denominated in a foreign currency. U.S. debit cards should be adequate to compensate service providers in Mexican Pesos charging the card holder in USD at the the current exchange rate.
There is absolutely no reason a Mexican service provider should accept bill settlement in a foreign currency. This is why we have a checking account at Banamex with adequate rainy-day funds in it just for such a contingency but we have always paid for hospital care with a U.S. debit card. No sweat.

They were not given any explanation, just a new policy stated.

You have been misinformed. The Leaños don't own either the Puerto de Hierro hospitals nor the San Javier. And those two don't share the same ownership.

The Leaños own (or at least did own) the Puerto de Hierro residential sub-division but not the hospitals. I chummed around in my youth with one of the minority partners in the San Javier who just recently passed away. He was also the a top official for the IMSS hospital in Zapopan. He married into a family that was way up there in a certain trade.

Puerta de Hierro does accept credit cards from outside Mexico

I just called Puerta de Hierro and spoke to the person who manages the 'caja' .... the above is only partially true. They no longer accept dollars, or checks drawn on banks outside of Mexico. HOWEVER, they DO accept credit cards from the U.S., Canada, or Europe (what we often refer to as 'international' cards); these include visa, master, and Amex.

UAG owns the hospitals Angel Leano and Hospital Ramon Garbay which is located in central. It has been rumored for years that hospital Javier, hotels and car dealerships are involved or owned by certain trades.

The Leaños that own the UAG (and the Tecos soccer club) and the ones that developed Andares are two different branches of the family. I'm not sure which one has the Mercedes dealership on Patria.
The ones that own the Autonoma also own the Grand Bay Resort in Barra de Navidad plus the hotel Cabo Blanco which has been pretty much allowed to deteriorate.
The whole bunch are despicable Nazis.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
UAG, Angel Leaño Hospital, Isla de Navidad, etc, etc, etc...also Real de Chapala and Danza del Sol hotels at lakeside....is the domain of Don Antonio Leaño (now deceased) and his progeny. But all the Leano's spring from the same fount in the "Los Altos".
Co-founders of the PAN political party in the 1930's right here in Guadalajara and a real bookend fascist organization to Franco's Falange in Spain in those days.

From what I understand they're members of El Yunque as well as being linked to narco trafficking.

The statements about hotels would make one wonder who are the owners of the larger hotel chains in Nuevo Vallarta, PV, Cancun, etc.

I believe they had even stronger ties to the German Nazis. One of the founders of the UAG, Carlos Cuesta Gallardo, who collaborated directly with the National Socialists, spent WWII in Berlin.
La Unión Nacional Sinarquista --- the infamous Tecos ---- Organización Nacional del Yunque ---- World Anti-Communist League and on and on. The murder of Manuel Buendia who was publishing an exposé of the dirty deeds of the Tecos at the time he was killed.
They were a bunch of nobodies until the CIA starting funding weapons through them for the fascist South American regimes.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
From what I have read UAG was started to counter the extremely left University of Guadalajara in the 1930's.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Correct. The founders were reacting to post-revolutionary government policy. That is what reactionaries do. In the same fashion the National Socialist movement in Germany.
Google Carlos Cuesta Gallardo for starters. The union sinarquita. The story of the Tecos. It is all very interesting.
I know quite a number of people who have studied at the UAG . The obligatory political indoctrination students are subjected to is quite strange and scary. Refusal to attend such lectures was many times punished through serious bodily harm or at the least expulsion. The Tecos are very nasty people.

As an aside, photographs of all of Chapala's past presidente's are displayed in Chapala's city council chambers. And the presidente of Chapala in 1940 is proudly sporting a Hitler mustache. Sieg-o Heil!

To be fair it is thought off an a "hitler" mustache nowadays
but in days of pre hitler it was a much more common thing
to see. Needless to say nobody wears on now unless they
like getting crap.
