Hopping Mad at Actinver
I will try to refrain from using profanity in this post.
On July the 5th, I wrote a cheque to Actinver on a Canadian Bank to cover what we thought was going to be a battery of tests for my hubby. Those tests turned into an emergency operation to remove a benign tumour on his large intestine that was obstructing normal function.
As of TODAY, July the 19th, those funds have still not cleared my Canadian bank. In the meantime, I can't access those funds in Canada, in case they do clear, and I can't access any funds in my Actinver account because the whole thing is frozen.
I cannot tell you how many times I have phoned Actinver, gone in to Actinver, asked if I could cancel the cheque (which would be not only be the NSF charge but also over a $1,000 dollars because of the change in the Canadian bank rate) so I could at least access the funds via a bank machine.
Has anybody else had to endure this TOTAL FUCKING BULLSHIT from Actinver...if so, what did you do?
I can tell you that since Actinver bought Lloyds, with whom we have had an account since '96, the service has gone down the tubes. It doesn't seem to matter if you write a cheque or do a bank transfer, they screw it up every time.
End rant...feedback please.

I have nothing but praise with my checks from Bancomer. Exchange rate is fair
for larger amounts of money (over 5K USD). Checks clear pretty fast. They
seem to really want our business.

Zed, do they have a beneficiary clause? If so, what is required? We've been plodding along with Actinver because all the beneficary stuff is set up in my hubby's sons name. Lloyd/Actinver requires current passport with picture and a signature.

Yea we assigned it to my wife Son in Columbia. No problem. We just gave them his name.

Time to swap banks, both in Canada and here. Actinver can't even get their clock set right on the outside of the building, not the best of signs.
Next time do a direct electronic bank transfer. If Actinver can't handle that, they're not worth dealing with.

Yep, and last time I looked neither of those times were during banking hours.

Excuse my stupidity but is there a difference between a "bank transfer" and an "electronic bank transfer"?
Actinver certainly can't do bank transfers either without screwing up.
The biggest reason I'm asking is because, when today I was talking to the Bank Manager in Canada, he mentioned that in Mexico you should deal with a bank that does cheques electronically and not through a manual clearing house.

I checked out Lloyds before moving here and chose MultValores. Since then they've become GrupoMultiVa and have opened Banco MultiVa. The service has been superb and the rate of return superior. I highly recommend MultVa and the entire staff there. Do yourself a favor and walk across the street.

No doubt about, our money will be walkin'.
When you have an emergency, you have to be able to count on things happening promptly and efficiently.
Beneficiary rules there please?
Sorry for asking questions but I'm tied to the house waiting for phone calls and don't want to tie up the phone for anything else.

Re: Hopping Mad at Actinver
Sorry ferret, took a nap. All I meant was a direct bank transfer, i.e. bank to bank, which is how the whole dealio actually works normally anyhow. All non-invested funds are accessible electronically, for example via debit cards, or credit cards or even electronic (telephone) banking. Now a few years back the funds had to go through New York and did tend to languish there for a few days while some crooked bastages used our money to grab a few points on interest. All funds are computerized, except for cash which you or others hold, and the banks really only have a very small percentage of cash available at their branches.
I would also recommend Multiva, and have never had any problems there.

Re: Hopping Mad at Actinver
Well then, that's another black mark against Actinver because, if they do that, they sure didn't tell me...and they knew the circumstances of the deposit. Dumb shits!...and so am I.

Re: Hopping Mad at Actinver
If you are going to transfer funds from sa bank NOB to a Mexican bank. First get a CLABE # from the Mexican bank, give it to your bank NOB along with the SWIFT CODE, NAME OF MEXICAN BANK, ADDRESS OF SAME, ACCT # to be credited. Hope this helps

Re: Hopping Mad at Actinver
It certainly may help somebody else. That's the way we've done transfers with Actinver in the past...they still lose the money for up to 10 days.
BTW, I finally called our original account manager in San Miguel...she's very senior and is going to help get to the bottom of this.
She has a very interesting history since her family owns the building that Lloyd/Actinver is located in there. Her office is the room where she was born...she likes to say she hasn't gone far in life.

Why is this thread in the Politics forum? Seems like it belongs in the General/Mirador forum, and is useful info for all since everybody has to deal with finding their own money solutions down here.

I agree but I needed to swear
so thought I ought not put it there
If either of the Bob's or Maid Merry can clean up my act, then feel free to move it...this really has happened and is true so I don't think it falls under defamation...then again, this is Mexico.

I use Canadian Forex to exchange funds from Canada to Mexico.
The process takes only 2-3 business days.

Re: Hopping Mad at Actinver
I know Actinver holds US dollar checks 4 weeks before you can assess funds. And Canadian checks are 8 weeks. Have you talked to Aurora Michelle, manager of the Ajijic branch? There was one occasion she released some of the money prior to it being available for a friend of mine.
Intercan is the best place to cash checks or wire transfer into Actinver. Same is the problem at Multiva - they will hold checks for 21 days if USD - don't know the hold on Canadian checks.
PS Some doctors and hospitals will give you payment terms for the surgery team and hospital. Ask your doctor if he can negotiate that for you.

Multiva holds checks for two weeks and even though I didn't have enough money in my investment account, they still transferred mney to my ATM account and let me withdraw it. I guess they knew after 11 years that I was good for it.
You don't need cash for a hospital or a Doctor, they all take credit cards and most want them upon entry to the hospital.
