There's good news...
Last Thursday I saw & heard the state police go into Chapala with sirens on. When dh returned home I had to ask if he'd seen anything around town. He said several state police vehicles, at different points(seemed to have been close by) where zooming into Ajijic & beyond. I decided I'd check el twitter to see what may be going on. The head of security on the other side of the lake had been picked up. I started praying right away. I'm sick of this stuff & I wanted to see him found and freed unharmed right away. You could hear the black hawk coming and going from time to time that afternoon. Since I'm not keeping a close watch on the news as it can be a real peace robber, I decided yesterday afternoon to see if there were any updates to this situation. Talk about jump for joy! Boy they found him within a few hours! Not only that, one of the guys that was part of it, claims to be involved with this one gang against his will and decided he'd take advantage of the confusion and get away!! Crashed one of the vehicles & is sitting safe in jail right now.
While I was snooping around online for some current news it was really nice to read the article in the GR with regards to the Canadian consulate meeting last week w/the mayor & chief of police of both Chapala & Jocotepec. It impressed me, I hope it's true, of their claims to have driven out the bad cell groups out of the area!
Furthermore, as the good news continues, evidence of Chapala police being more vigilant in their patrols(I see them more frequently & some of them even have a couple of cool dogs) & best of all...denial that expats have made a mass exodus.
These are paraphrases of local mainstream online news reports. Don't let your guard down but things are a lot better right now. Not saying the restaurants are packed out. This is low season anyway.
Keep looking up!

It's nice to hear good news. Also when I phone home (Ajijic) from the far north, I'm told everything is quiet and the slowly but surely everything is getting back to normal, which is good news as I will be heading back south in maybe 20 days.
