I assume you're asking about the state of Michoacan? It's the state next to and southeast of Jalisco.

Thanks for the support Ms Mac, but Solovine (AKA Manuel Dexterity) is much more knowledgeable about Méxican culture than I, even if he sometimes comes off as a jerk.

I think we both misbehaved. And I have often admitted that my Spanish is weak. It might be a bit better if I weren't 78 and nearly deaf and pretty lazy in my retirement.

As for the book you asked about -- I mailed that shortly after you sent your address. When I didn't hear from you, I assumed you found no errors or had not yet read it. I'm sorry the book seems to have been lost because I don't have any more copies.

This is just great. We now have a thread teaching gringo's ways to piss off the Mexicans even more than us just being here.

What's a "gabron"? The cussin' word is "cabrón"... to spice it up a little, I'd use "pinche cabrón pendejo" (of course only used with very close friends, wouldn't just walk up to "tal fulano" on the street and sling this in his face...

Pinche Cabron means (literally) Prickly goat. In this case the "prickly" part refers to personality. So, said with enough force, "Pinche Cabron!" means "Foul tempered old goat!"
Pendejo means pubic hair, or (literally) "hanging, pendulous".
These can definitely get you in deep Caca. Lizzy SNICKER lol!

Oh! Just let me bust in with my spin on this'n...

The meaning of "cabrón"... "Foul tempered old goat" is cute, but slightly "off`"... "cabrón" refers to a goat, as in an animal with horns, implying that the man toward whom this insult is hurled, has had "horns put on him" like a goat... in other words, his wife is an unfaithful slut. A very powerful nasty insult, especially since a man's honor/machismo is being majorly dissed. I "kid" thee not. (discúlpame, por fa´)

A bilingual Mexican told me this. Guess this person was either lying to me or just didn't know themselves. At lease we've established that it's "cabrón" and not "gabrón". OK, so what DOES "cabrón" mean, sabelotodo?

And it's cabrón, right? Not cabròn, last time I checked Spanish doesn't have a "grave" accent mark on any vowel...?

I could care less what your friend says. I have been married to a bilingual Mexican woman for over 30 years and have 3 grown bilingual Mexican children. I have spoken Spanish since grade school.

I wrote the last post on a laptop with an English keyboard. The diacritical marks are on different keys than the one I am used to.

Is that all you´ve got, mamoncita?

Elaine, if you will read my post again?
I stated.... "said with enough force pinche cabrón means foul tempered old goat."
In Spanish a word may have a multitude of uses and translations, depending on how it's used, where it is used and accompanying body language. Por ejemplo..."ojala" can mean anything from, "I would like." to "I fervently desire!" depending on placement, context and tone of voice. Lizzy
