Trip to Paracho
We visited the town of Paracho last month. They are known for their guitar builders. Paracho guitars are considered top quality and sold all over the world. Here are a few pics:

It is approximately 4 hours driving from Chapala to Paracho. You can either go around the north side of the lake or around the south side. I went down via the north side because we wanted to visit Morelia and Patzcuaro on the way. We came back via the south side of the lake. The complete loop was about 10 hours drive time. If your going straight to Paracho it is probably quicker to go around the southside.

Check Google earth for all sorts of places to go on the way. Camecuaro, Paricutin,(the volcano that blew in 1947 and swallowed up the church), Uruapan, with one of the most beautiful inner city National Parks I have seen in any country, Tingambato, with its pyramids, and many other options. It makes a big loop to Patzcuaro, on to Morelia and back home. I bought a nice little classical guitar, handmade, in Paracho, and I spend at least an hour a day annoying the neighborhood pets.
We took a caravan of 10 people and had the best time on any of the trips I have taken.
