2014 Guitar Festival in Paracho

This year it's from Aug 2nd to Aug 10th

I would love to attend this. Does anyone know the safety level of this part of Michoacan at the moment?

Morelia to Patzcuaro to Uruapan is likely to be safer. The other 2 routes (Los Reyes and Zamora) are pretty much in the middle of nowhere with 2 lanes. Los Reyes a lot of traffic and Zamora not much.

I am thinking of attending this festival. Maybe go next Friday/Saturday. Would anyone be interested in joining me? I have room for 4 in my van. Of course it would be subject upon finding a room to stay.

Lots more space in Uruapan and a 25 minute drive or less .... and lots to see there

Yes, I have been to Uruapan before. Nice city and beautiful national park. I will take a look there.

there is a hotel right near the square[a bunch of us stayed there],and a coupla motels near that paracho giant guitar entrance where the road is 2 lane.

Yes, I'll look at those too but I imagine they are probably full with the Festival happening.

Last time I was over that way a couple of months ago, Paracho seemed peaceful enough but Cherán, the next town had guys manning the sandbags at the entrada and salida. Asked where I was going, said Uruapan, they just waved me on. Age has it's benefits.   

about a year ago +or- paracho people did the same thing. they got tired of the templarios messing with them

the motel on the outskirts has a carved and painted chair just outside the office. i will pay up to 200-300 p for it,if they still have it.
