How does a Mexican stop Home Break-ins?
Looking through the Milenio and came across a town with a similar name to Chapala yet hundreds of miles north. This town is dealing w/robbery on a daily basis. What are they recommending to their citizen's for security? Higher walls & courageous dogs in their secured carports & patios. Remember how hard it was to find anything in the grocery store when you first arrived? You had to relearn how to find things by learning to think like a Mexican. We can learn how to deal with some of our home break ins by listening to our national people.
from today's news:

Sorry I don't have a good translator but in essence...higher walls & a valiant dog in your carport and patio is the recommendation for keeping thieves out of your property.

That is great news for my "Bricks & Pitbull" emporium that I was thinking of opening.........jajajaja.
Re: How does a Mexican stop Home Break-ins?
The area this article is referring to is essentially the "tri-cities" of Torreon, Gomez Palacio and Lerdo (where Rolly lives). We used to overnight in either Torreon or Gomez Palacio both on our way south and again heading back north. Based on the local media reports that I see out of this area, you could not pay me enough to even exit off the highway into the area, let along consider staying overnight in the area.

Mexicans avoid breakins by:
Not living in high crime areas or those controlled by delinquents
Not living in high density Infonavit housing
Having nothing of value
Having grandma or a relative being home all the time
Being so badass that nobody dare mess with you

Oh RIGHT, Spencer.
Sorry, this isn't a heckuva lot of doable advice for a couple of old foreigners living in the middle of town......but what the hey, it was a good laugh.

Someone home is definitely true but not a lot of good if they open the door at the wrong time...how about living on a block being related to every homeowner? Some of those are stereo typical, even for Mexicans :) Think of how brainwashed my Mexican friends from Guadalajara were with me? It took me a long time to realize they too were being stereo typical of the lakeside area. Some of our Mexican friends now were born & raised here. Some of them moved here from Guadalajara to be here with us. hah! And so what if there's ricos(rich people) out here? There's pobres tambien(poor also)! Mexican & North American! And plenty of rich & poor in Guadalajara. Everyone has to keep watch of what he has, doesn't matter if rich or poor...but if you live in Mexico...get a valiant dog!

I don't fit that, but my dogs sure do. They even raise hell when a stranger parks in front of the house.

Hey CB. The valiant dog thing might be a good idea. CB's "trained valiant dogs for rent". Way better than all these poor abandoned creatures every spring. "Killer Bob's Killer Chihauaus"(sic).

I don't like the poop either. Another benefit to feeding raw...2/3 less poop & smell. It's like hunting for easter eggs out there...even w/the big dogs.

Re: How does a Mexican stop Home Break-ins?
Our yard is flagstone. No lawn. Just plants in pots and dirt strip with palms.
Ducking under palms to do the pickup......no way. Smelly stuff on flagstones.....double no way. Flies? neh. Walking critter while carrying plastic bags to pick up after..........yuck.
I hope you and your valiant dogs have a long and happy time together.
Not for me. I'll take having the local bird spa, good bars on the apertures, nosy neighbors and keeping a low profile.
But.......whatever makes you feel good and safe is what's important.

Re: How does a Mexican stop Home Break-ins?
We enjoy the country feel...stepping around a few road apples & cow pies on our walks & rides, no problemo...our neighbor noise consists of peacock cries & the brushing of the trees in the breeze. Tranquilidad.
Raw food poop doesn't smell like processed dog food poo. Cleans up easier too, if to fall on flagstone, not mushy. Scrape & flick it over the fence into the brushy lot next door like a good redneck, if you'd rather not bag or box it.

As I said...............whatever makes ya happy, girl.
I'm a Big City Woman, myself. Lived in the country once, even had my own peacocks and peahens. Got over it fast. Hee hee. or Hee Haw.

Ah! And the Valiant Little Poopers will inflict their scat upon the sandals of yet another thousand of visitors who will climb into a thousand more vehicles and deposit said poops upon the carpets. VIVA LOS CHIHUAHUAS VALIENTES!! Lizzy
