. . .this afternoon I went to toc to see if there was any more info on the Joco news. I received a notice that I was not allowed to view this community (or something to that effect), assume I've been banned or something. I can live with that. But, then I tried to check it out by typing in the URL and my Avast! went nuts with a virus alert saying it had just detected a Trojan Horse virus on chapala.com. I have not tried it again!

Be advised, if you access that site.

I had something similar happen yesterday. I had upgraded my Avast and they said they had detected and removed a Trojan horse virus involved with that website.
Went back on today...no problems.

There has been something going around where one gets an email from a contact that says "HEY!", suggests you open this neat website and says "advertisement" in small print just below.
We have received three and a friend just emailed to ask if this was us or not. Seems relativelt harmless... but then again.. Lizzy

Since you folks are seeing the problem with two different internet browsers it looks like a bug with Avast.

Try running another spyware checker like Spybot once in a while. Sometimes one spyware/antivirus may
not find everything that another would find. Avast does have a good reputation.

I am running Firefox with the pay version of Avast and haven't seen one single sign of these symptoms.

But have you upgraded lately? Thanks for the data point.

Maybe it is an Avast thing. I received a PM notice in my email today from TOB. The PM notice displays the message so no problem. But when I went to TOB to delete it I again got the 'you are not welcome here' notice, but without any Avast warning or virus or Trojan Horse notice at all. So, don't know what that was all about.

Question for the geeks tho, in order for them to keep my computer from accessing their website they must have placed some kind of a cookie or something on my computer, no??? How did they do that? Can they harm my computer??? They're beginning to scare me.

No you should be able to see the site. My guess is you were logging on automatically and the remnants of that are causing you to be rejected now
when you just want to see the site. They could ban your IP. I suppose they could ban your lan card MAC address (every communication card has a unique
number in it). Try another web browser and I bet you can see the site.

Relax while TOB is truly an evil place in many ways they really are not that clever. Lots of things put cookies on your machine like your automatic logon per example.
How do they do it? Well you don't stop them is how. While from my point of view they are scary. They are not technology scary. You are fine. Run Spybot once in
a while and update before you run it every couple of weeks or so if you are worried. Use the free version.
