What Happens During Semana Santa?
According to INFORMADOR:
"Increases 20% in theft from home at Easter":
"MEXICO CITY (05/ABR/2012.) - If you go on vacation these holy days be sure to lock your house.
And is that during Holy Week the room burglaries increased 20%, according to the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS)........

Re: What Happens During Semana Santa?
I take it to mean that they mean Hotel burglaries and not home burglaries.
As of last week the PV Hotels were 90% reserved and that will probably mean 100% occupied this week.
Is the busiest week Semana Santa or Semana de Pasqua?

John:
I believe this may be a case of Google translate missing the intent of the original Spanish version. They are definitely talking about home burglaries during this holiday period.
A friend was in Guadalajara yesterday and said that it was extremely quiet. Also read a report that there was so much traffic leaving Mexico City that it was taking up to 3 hours just to get out of the city. With that many people vacating their homes, it only makes sense that the opportunity is there for home burglaries.

The article says casas not habitaciones or hoteles just o to the Spanish version it is riht in the title.
People go to the beach so the houses are empty so the burglars go to work. Pretty simple.

I should have realized that considering the occupancy in PV. And all the cars here.
Don't go out today. It's the worst day for traffic.

Yesterday in the afternoon the traffic ran from beyond where I could see
in San Antonio all the way west through Ajijic. You could walk along the
carraterra and the traffic was not going that much faster than walking.

You all can complain about the conditions at Lake Chapala but take a look at these fotos from Mazatlan yesterday:

After many years here, the very best suggestion I have to offer, is load up your refrigerator, and pantry, leave nothing out that you're likely to need and stay home until it's all over.

We’ve decided this is best for us also. We’ve enjoyed the special events but it’s time that those that haven’t enjoyed the space we’re not taking up. If we have visitors we’ll have to reconsider.
