Business lakeside
If ... IF we decided to open a business, would it be easier/safer to get a Mexican partner or jump through the Buerocratic hoops ourselves. This is all ground work at present. So what we do after we "retire" is not set in stone.

Depends what business. Honest partners are hard to find.

If you aren't here yet then don't even think about it. It should be a hobby and not needed income
Re: Business lakeside
I couldn't agree more. Not as a way to supplement your income. Lizzy

Re: Business lakeside
The best way to make big money lakeside is to do work via the internet and work for clients in the US. No immigration papers needed, no jealous local competitors and you really will have low overhead allowing you to compete. I draft legal pleadings for attorneys in the US and make out like a bandit as I earn in dollars and pay expenses in pesos. I work for cheap for up there but here I can do the work at night and play music and drinks cokes.
with VOIP there are many customer service jobs you can do and not take benefits and make over $10 or $15 an hour and work 30 hours a week from Mexico. This is the best plan, no employees or legal issues and no overhead, just money coming in.

Re: Business lakeside
Spencer, I guess your definition of "big money" and mine differ. But, if you still have to work - yours isn't a bad strategy. I go back NOB to do expert testimoney work that pays a lot, but I'm cutting back now and mostly doing it pro bono for friends. It's too stressful and it's work. Two things I'm here to avoid.

Re: Business lakeside
My statement was broad brush meant for the vast majority of people here who want to / need to work and don't have specialized skills.
Big money in Mexico for many people would be just that, making NOB wages while down here. The definition is flexible.
I too do expert witness work but also see the writing on the wall, at least for what i do and see a decline in work although few cases go to trial and almost all have settled (I do lending law cases).
