Ajijic - circa 1940's some things never change
This article is from Tony Burton.
Ajijic inflation in the 1940s:
- “This pueblo has become a writers’ colony in the last decade, and that popularity has helped considerably to raise the local cost of living. Land that could be bought for 6 cents a square meter is now 10 times more. Room and board which could be had for a dollar a day is now two. Sugar is 15 cents a pound, eggs 50 cents a dozen. That is a lot for the inhabitants of this tucked away village.” — Mary Hirscheld, “Cleveland Plain Dealer” (10 April 1948).
