Basil Thai in Ajijic
Hadn't been here since it was the former Pien Thai, a block away. Still on Hidalgo but closer to the Plaza. For oldsters, it's where David's Cafe was for many years.
Ordered the Larb (#9 on menu). Larb is my go-to Thai meal in hot weather. It's a warm salad,
You can judge a Thai place by their Larb (and I'm very judgy). It's not something you order if you're in a hurry. The chef has to finely dice the raw chicken and the veggies, then cook the chicken and combine for a salad-y dish. Today at Basil Thai the chef's knife skills were impressive. Very uniform fine dice on all the ingredients.
I asked for it muy picante and I'd say it was an 8 on a scale of 10 spice level, which is my sweet spot. Enough to make my eyes water and drain my sinuses, but still able to taste the ingredients.
It was a huge portion (I think it's under appetizers??), maybe 2 cups of Larb and some rice on the side. 160p. It was rather warm in the restaurant but they bring a frosty mug for your beer, 40p.
They have a few floor fans.
They are also on Traitte.

I didn't take notice of plants, one way or the other. I walked to the back area behind kitchen where it is brighter with better air circulation than the main DR.
