The hack has been addressed so it is normal now, it wasn't earlier today.

Hacked again but this time, instead of just one page of spam, it's the first 10 and a bit of page 11 that is totally spam. Tried to message Mainecoons but he doesn't accept messages.

Re: Chapala . com
It looks like a spam robot attack. That is why our site here logs people out once in a while........

Yes, that is why.
Nice of them to provide airline contact information though.

This is why I log out of everything when I am done and log back in again if I revisit a site later in the day.

Logging out of a site will not stop this from happening. A moderator who is asleep at the wheel can't prevent it either.

Re: Chapala . com
No, of course me logging out won't prevent an entire website from being hacked. But if a hacker can hack into an entire website, they can also likely hack into individual accounts. I'm no techie, but it seems like it would be easier to do that if the hacker didn't have to enter a password, because the account holder was logged in.

Re: Chapala . com
Not too sure about that but I guess, in this day and age, anything's possible. It appears to be a bunch of NEW members of the site who are posting these spam links. That's bad screening of new members (probably all the same person who is pissed off with the site for one reason or another). Golly gee, I wonder who that might be. I guess you just keep blocking them until they give up.

Re: Chapala . com
I just added a link about that. If you don't log out, anyone who gains access to your computer, whether physically (gets stolen) or digitally (hackers) can get into your accounts that you are logged into and see whatever personal information you have on there. It's especially important to log out of any accounts which concern finances. For instance, if I didn't log out of my Airbnb account, a hacker could more easily get into my hosting account and change payout information so payments were redirected to them.
And yes, spammers are almost always new members of a site, particularly forums.

Re: Chapala . com
Chapala.com, AirBnB, etc. already have all your personal information available for the taking. Chapala.com has already had everyone's personal information hacked ....

Re: Chapala . com
They've still got the Spam issue.
There's a hosting forum I'm a member of that has some internal settings that seem to work pretty well to cut down on spamming. A new member has to comment on existing threads a certain amount of times before they are allowed to start a topic thread. And the moderators there pay attention to the initial responses a new member makes- if they are generic and pointless, or appear to be AI- generated, they wait for the new member to be eligible to start anew topic, and if it's advertising spam, that account is instantly deleted. Or if the new member includes a link in a response that is obviously advertising or phishing, they also instantly get booted.

Check out the “Staff” option at the top of the page at Chapala.com. With the number of moderators they have why the spam stays up as long as it does is beyond me. Instead of all the preaching and snotty comments from MC he ought to pay more attention to his job that he clutches so tightly to his heaving breast. Though he likes to say it’s a non-paid volunteer position he would die before giving it up. Only power he has around here, which is really pathetic.

Re: Chapala . com
Well, it's easy and maybe understandable to try and find someone to blame when things go south. BUT being an unpaid Moderator does not mean that one has a full time job with no time off, AND that a Moderator even has a ghost of a chance when up against a Bot(s) spewing spam Posts at warp speed (anywhere).
Just my opinion of course....

Re: Chapala . com
I think their site administrator, if the mods can't, needs to disable the ability for any new members to sign up for awhile until they get this sorted.
Removing the spam one by one every day isn't the solution, obviously.
