|| Prosecutors investigate death of a man in Chapala commercial plaza
The Special Regional Prosecutor's Office assigned to District V based in #Chapala opened an investigation to shed light on the death of the husband of a businesswoman from that municipality, registered this afternoon Tuesday, March 14.
Municipal police who carried out their surveillance tour were notified that inside the Centro Laguna commercial plaza, located in San Antonio Tlayacapan, an unconscious person was found and traces of violence were seen at plain sight.
First responders located indoors a male between 55 and 60 years old with injuries apparently produced from a firearm, so they requested the presence of paramedics, who corroborated that he no longer had signs of life.
An agent of the Public Ministry, supported by elements of the Investigative Police, is already carrying out the first investigations to clarify the mobile of this aggression, as well as the identification of who or who are responsible.
Personnel of the Forensic Medical Service will carry out the transfer of the body to their facilities for the practice of necropsy, while experts from the Jalisciense Institute of Forensic Sciences carry out examinations for the pinning and collection of clues.

This is horrible and I have no idea what the reasons for this were however there has definitely been an increase in cartel "activity" for the past 4 months or so. I know of at least one person who has been chased out of town for "distributing without authorization".

He's lucky he just got chased out of town. Remember when Pepe who lived on Nicolas Bravo in Ajijic was assassinated? Word was he was targeted by cartel for minor drug sales mostly to expats. They wanted him to pay a share of his sales but evidently he told them to get lost. Didn't end well for him.

Yes, he was very lucky. Pepe had several warnings that he ignored.

Same thing happened in Sayulita a few years ago. Drive-by shooting in broad daylight of a guy who had a DVD stand on the street. Supposedly was small-time dealing on the side.

I was told it was the owner of Laguna Centro, Eduardo. He inherited Laguna Centro and the Vivero across the street from his American father-in-law. He had some enemies.

Re: Shooting at Laguna Mall 5:30pm Tuesday March 14th
There was a demonstration about letting him out of jail in December. No idea what happened since.

Google translation:
Inhabitants of Chapala demonstrated this afternoon at the Supreme Court of Justice of the State of Jalisco (STJJ) to demand that a subject identified as Omar O'Rourke remain detained in Puente Grande, at least until January 12.
During the protest, they indicated that they fear that due to acts of corruption by the Chapala judge, Alberto García Muñoz, and the First Chamber in Criminal Matters of the STJEJ, the subject will be released and evade federal justice.
Omar was originally denounced for fraud in the administration of a shopping center in Chapala. After his denouncer received a death threat, his capture was ordered in June; When he was arrested, he was carrying a firearm for the exclusive use of the Army, which is a federal crime.
"He is being held precisely for the crimes of threatening to kill my client, for carrying weapons exclusive to the Army and for fraud," said lawyer Bonifacio García Segura.
The protesters emphasize that O'Rourke remain in custody until January 12 because that day is the hearing for the federal crime and they do not want the date to arrive and be out of jail.
"We want him to appear before federal justice and the judges who are intervening in this, it is known that the lawyers of the person arrested, Omar O'Rourke, are in collusion with the judges and are trying to release him before January 12 to remove him from federal justice," added the lawyer.

Was the victim the accuser?? That December news story names the attorneys, but not the person who was threatened (or I missed it).
In another story I read the man shot on the 14th at Centro Laguna was 35 years old, not 55. Quien sabe?
I was never sure who got ripped off that resulted in original arrest other than it had to do with an older expat investor who died and allegedly his heirs didn't get his share of something (was it the Mall or was it Radisson?).
News stories here often vague. Helps feed the rumor mill!

Re: Shooting at Laguna Mall 5:30pm Tuesday March 14th
I believe Omars dispute was with the owner of the Laguna Mall and all the investors. All the articles I have read says it was a man 50 to 60 years of age that was shot.
But who knows for sure. The dispute definitely involved the Laguna Mall.

This is one of the articles I saw. A couple others concurred with this info.....
The Special Regional Prosecutor's Office assigned to District V based in #Chapala opened an investigation folder to shed light on the death of the husband of a businesswoman from that municipality, registered this afternoon Tuesday, March 14.

I haven't seen anything that says it was the owner of the mall though.

Notices posted at Centro Laguna
I wonder if this shooting has anything to do with the notices that were posted all over Centro Laguna in recent weeks? Something about Omar O'Rourke Martinez. Sounded pretty serious and threatened legal action. It was plastered on every visible surface at the mall.

https://theguadalajarareporter.net/index.php/news/news/lake-chapala/59608-man-shot-to-death-inside-centro-laguna-mall
A man, approximately 50 years of age, was gunned down Tuesday, March 14 inside the Centro Laguna shopping mall, at the intersection of the Libramiento bypass and the Chapala-Jocotepec highway.
Municipal police were summoned quickly to the scene, along with paramedics, who were unable to revive the victim.
The District V’s Special Regional Prosecutor’s Office took over the investigation, while the deceased man’s body was transferred to the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences in Guadalajara for an autopsy.
Reports indicated that the man, who was apparently the husband of a businesswoman, had just left a restaurant when the assault occurred at 5:20 p.m.
No other information about the victim has been released by authorities.
Chapala city hall later issued a bulletin asking citizens to avoid speculation on the case, since disinformation had started to circulate on social media platforms.
A strong police presence both inside and outside the shopping mall was maintained until late that evening.
The crime scene was cleared by early Wednesday morning and business activities at the mall had returned to normal.

LOL......I was thinking the same thing. When the media and government offer no details and look like they are trying to sweep something under the rug speculation and rumors run wild. The GR report offers nothing other than what every eyewitness could tell you. They could start by publishing the name of the victim.
