Theft at Laguna Mall
A friend had her wallet stolen at Laguna Mall. She was having lunch with her brother and somehow got lured away from her purse. There were 3 of them and it was caught on security cameras. The police were notified.
Lessons
Don't leave your purse for any reason whatsoever.
Don't let anyone encroach on your personal space. Push them away and yell if necessary.

Better yet, use a purse that you wear on your body and keep it there!

Hate hearing this. I hope she at least gets her documents back.

That mall has become a liability. Many thefts and even a recent murder there. Beware.......

I carry this everywhere and will use it if feeling that it needs to be used. Very loud and works.
Also carry and wear my OSOCE Messenger Bag Sling Crossbody Shoulder Bags Water Resistant for Business Office School.

Re: Theft at Laguna Mall
It's also a good idea to remove anything important from your wallet that you aren't going to need for any given excursion. For instance, I seldom need to show my permanente card for anything, so that mostly stays at home. And unless you are heading to an ATM machine, or not planning to pay for your groceries or dinner with cash, there's no need to carry your debit or credit card with you. And I never use my Canadian credit card in Mexico, unless I am booking a flight online, so that gets locked away as soon as I get back from my annual summer trip to Canada.
And I do the same when I'm in Canada- as soon as I get to where I'm staying, I cull out my wallet and my Mexican drivers license, Bancomer debit card, permanente card, etc, get left at home because I don't need them in Canada. Whatever can lessen the impact of a theft is worth thinking about.
I also have photocopies of everything and when I travel, I stash photocopies separately from the original documents. I once lost my passport somewhere along the way when driving up to Canada. I was detained for awhile when getting to the Canadian border, but had I not had the passport photocopy, it would have been a much bigger debacle.

Re: Theft at Laguna Mall
What's the deal with the new gate at the entrance from the carretera (at light opposite Walmart)? Seems it was installed after the shooting/killing.
Is that parking area still open to the public? I parked in that area when getting take-away in past; it's an easy exit because of traffic light.
If the gate was installed as a response to the shooting/killing, it's a bit odd since access to the other parking areas do not have gates or other restrictions.

You can park in that area but the guard will take note of your license plate coming and going. Perhaps there are no security cameras back there (yet)? I don't know if the front has them either.
imho, that's probably from where the perps escaped and this is just a knee jerk reaction.

Re: Theft at Laguna Mall
I was told that the eastside lot is now reserved for shop owners & vendors delivering goods & products, providing an additional level of security for the operation of businesses. I previously liked to park there due to reduced exposure vs. big open lot when getting cash at the CiBanco ATM. Thx Ferret - didn't know they would still let regular folk in.. A more visible security guard works the main lot now. Looks into vehicles, writes down plate #s, but not so much after 5 pm. Alas. Tomahawk is no more.. restaurants don't seem to make it in the Mall, other than food court & bread store.

His brother told me that Omar is still incarcerated. The widow made a "financial contribution" to the judge.
