BBQ by Juan Mata
I have to put in a plug for Juan’s BBQ. Used to be kind of “meh” to me but no longer. His brisket is to die for. I just polished off a brisket sandwich I heated in his bbq sauce and dang, it was good! Also, I’ve stocked up on his brisket chili which has no beans in it. You have to add your own if so inclined (I never am.)
Pancho’s in Riberas has a freezer for Juan’s goods. He also comes on some Fridays to Pancho’s Riberas location and you can get your fix either hot, meaning not presealed or sealed up. He also has ribs, Texas Twinkies, frijoles and other goodies and announces when he’s coming Lakeside on Facebook from his restaurant in Ixtlahuacan. Very nice guy and worth trying.

I’ve never had them but they must be popular. I’ll try to find the FB post about them.

I messaged Juan and asked about the Twinkies. I’ll try to post this past weeks offerings but I don’t have luck here posting photos.

Juan hasn’t responded but google says they’re jalapeño poppers stuffed with brisket.

He finally answered. Jalapeños stuffed with brisket and Oaxacan cheese, wrapped in bacon and smoked.
Not on the menu this Friday 11:00 to 3:00 at both Pancho’s, Riberas and W. Ajijic but everything else is. Get the brisket.
