virgen de guadalupe festivities
i love the virgin of guadalupe and her festivities (normally held around december 12). last year i went to zamora in michoacan for that holiday and had a great time. this year, i'm looking for somewhere else to go. anybody know of some great festivities held on her "day"? i know mexico city would be good, but that's a bit far and expensive. looking for something in jalisco or nearby.
thanks!

Try San Juan Cosala
The Virgin of Guadalupe is big in San Juan Cosala - just west of Ajijic. The celebration starts about a week before Dec. 12th. Many of the people in the town build shrines featuring the virgin - there are more and more every night. The night of Dec. 12th if a great time to come see the various shrines and there is a big street party at the plaza with fireworks around 10:30pm. Usually lots of music, food and aztec dancing.
