This is from the FB page of Semanario Laguna.  If you use FB you will see some very negative comments about local "gringos" by members of our MXN community.  Some of the comments focus on the newly arrived "gringos" with accusations that many are trump supporters and gun advocates.

Oh, no! Those idiots are bringing guns here? Hope he enjoys his new life in Mexico, though in a jail cell. This makes me sick.

Not even the American consulate will touch this. He’s on his own!

They try to bring their guns into Canada, too.
They think they have some God-given right to pack guns anywhere they want.

Gosh, I'm from Seattle and I have never owned a gun. Are you telling me, that I have to buy one before I return to Ajijic?

I'm sad about any shooting and or killing. I would like to understand more about what lead to this shooting. How could someone just shoot another on the street. There has to be some reason this fool used to justify in his mind at least, this shooting

Some have given their explanation of why it happened in FB postings at Semanario Laguna.

The short news story only says the shooter was an extranjero (a foreigner). The comments on FB are the ones saying he is a gringo and implying an American with their references to trump and guns.

Hopefully more facts will come out.

No matter what led up to the shooting, the foreigner should not have had a gun. PERIOD. The young man would be alive today no doubt if that idiot wasn’t packing.

Whatever the reason, the foreigner shouldn’t have had a gun. The only mitigating factor would have been if the Mexican attacked and had the weapon but the foreigner got it away from him then used it in self-defense. I agree about the misinformation spread through Facebook, though.

I am with C Bob. We don't have the facts, so all else is speculation. Drugs involved maybe? Definitely should not have a gun in Mexico.

The latest gossip I saw on Facebook which might be BS is the foreigner was beating his Mexican wife and when the Mexican man intervened the foreigner shot him.

The victim per FB comments, was the brother of the woman the gringo was beating. Some reports say the Mexican woman was the GF of the shooter.

All the makings of a class act! As a point of reference, one can possess firearms in Mexico... They have to be registered and of specified caliber.

Yes, but as far as I'm aware, you can't enter the country with a gun, and individuals can only purchase guns through the military.

I find it odd that the Guadalajara Reporter did not report it in this week's edition. The print edition of Seminario Laguna reported it. Not much more detail, though it did add that the victim was the brother of the woman the foreigner was being aggressive against.

Says the foreigner remains in custody in Chapala.
