One was going to open near the point that the Libramiento begins. It's built and I'm told nicely finished inside but there was a problem getting the right "licenses" needed to open. Rumors of politics and money, etc.. Kind of a shame, I think a T&A place would do well in this area. There's a whole range in Guadalajara from seedy to 5 Star.

From TOB, it appears that Daniel is playing a rather smart game. Sure there are plenty threatening to not go there because of the smoking issue but he is smart to recognize that many probably wouldn't be his customers anyway. As I see it, he has a much larger problem and that is the location away from the main population bases. Hell, when some people complain that it is too far to drive from Ajijic to Chapala, I cannot see them heading out in that direction. The one positive to his new location is that he can plan to close early because people simply won't want to drive that highway after dark.

I would guess that at least 30 to 50% of those folks voicing their opinions on TOB would never have been customers or even interested in being regular customers. But by golly, they put in their 1/2 cents worth!

To be honest I wouldn't be hanging in those places in Mexico. Seems to me they are a cartel hit magnet. I would even be leery about hanging in that casino in Ajijic in the wee hours.

Just saying eh............

Never heard of a problem in a T&A place. Casinos now, are another matter.

Most T&A places are owned or controlled by organized crime. This rule applies to anywhere NOB. In Vancouver it is the HA's (Hell's Angels) that own/control all the strip clubs and the girls that strip in them. I imagine Mexico is no different............and as the "war on drugs" carries on, I think the boys will be expanding their operations into more "legitimate" businesses (porn and casinos) if they don't already run them all.

Maybe, pero the one's I've been in have very robust security and like I said, I've never seen or heard of a problem. BTW, they've been here (the clubs) forever. If, as you suggest, they're owned by the "bad guys" you're probably safer there than a privately owned casino. It's the ones that don't pay the "protection" that get hit. The one's operated by the OC (orgainzed crime) that don't have that problem.

I totally agree............. up until one entity wants to hurt the business interests of another. I'm not saying it is inevitable, I just tend to be cautious about where I hang out. I don't even go to the ones in Vancouver any more because some of the gang shootings here are taking place in these places. There have been a few bystanders injured. Better safe than sorry........

I agree. I'll opt for safe every time. OK, unless I'm in Manzanillo where the Club Miami is irresistable!

I cannot remember the name of the joint but about a year ago, there was a shoot em up at one of the fancier T & A spots in Guadalajara with a number of people killed and more wounded. Probably one not owned by OC?

Hahaha......I have been to the Club Miami in Manzinillo too. I have also been to El Dragon Rojo in Matzatlan on a few occasions however that was in my younger, crazier, pre "drug war" days.

I don't recall that. I do recall a disco getting shot up.

I believe CG is referring to the attack at Club Butter in Guadalajara a while back. Not sure if it was a strip club as it was described as a nightclub but they are all in the same category as "dangerous places to hang out late in the evening in Mexico (and most major cities) now a days"........

Granted, I have no idea exactly what their setup is but if, they have open air seating I can see no problem with allowing people to smoke in those areas.

No, they didn't have open air seating for smokers at the time the discussion came up on the other board. They were allowing indoor smoking, which is a violation of the new law. Granted, it is a big room but it is all indoors. I haven't been up there lately to see if they set up outdoor seating.

Interestingly, the Sunrise restaurant in San Antonio where all of the seating is basically open air, got fined big time for violating the smoking law. Sunrise is Mexican owned, too.

I can't think of any logical argument to refute his opinion. Just because a drug is legal or not legal has nothing to do with the basic principal and he
has nailed it perfectly IMHO.
