Smoking pot tied to slacking off at work :

"According to a real shocker from the world of bona fide science, smoking marijuana is tied to less motivation at the office.

The author of the study said it can't prove whether that's due to the drug's effects, the social environment in which it's used or whether pot smokers are just more likely to be laid-back from the get-go.

Though researcher Christer Hyggen suspects pot is the culprit, another possible explanation is that people who aren't so happy with their work situation or motivated on the job are more likely turn to drugs.......................................

I can't say anyone I knew who smoked pot had bad work habits. In fact
every one I knew worked 50/60 hours a week. Not sure what the study
was trying to prove. Looks like nothing. I know a guy who smokes before
bucking hay. Puts on some loud music and loads away. Hardly lazy task
to do. For some people Pot wakes them up, some puts them to sleep and
some want to eat a bag of Oreo cookies while listening to pink floyd while
watching the wizard of Oz. Remember that one :-) :-) It was all in the
timing to the Lion roar on the movie.

Dawg does not know about the efficacy of smoking pot or its derivatives in achieving higher productivity in the work place as I never attempted to return to work after an episode of ingesting that wonderful drug but I do know that after eating hash laden oatmeal in Kathmandu in one of the myriad cafes famous for serving up that dish in that city in the late 1960s, it was really hard work to find one´s hotel. The last time I found my hotel room in that city of a late night, I retired to the toilet to find a giant rat floating in the toilet bowl. Dawg shortly returned to India on the chicken bus.

I can attest to the fact that, when living and working as a commercial banker serving the wine industry in the Napa Valley in Northern California during my latter years as a wage slave, it was more difficult for me to achieve my work goals serving the wine snots involving creative writing on their behalf after a lunch of three extra dry martinis and three modest In & Out cheeseburgers so I always figured, what the hell; go home and take a nap.

I agree with Zed on this,one of the hardest working most efficient workers I've ever met smoked a bowl on the way to work every day,it never had a negative effect on my productivity either but a couple of beers at lunch and I was ready for a nap.

Biggest problem for me was my weeks supply of candy bars....disappeared in an HOUR

As long as we are at it, I wouldn't want my surgeon or airline pilot consuming alcohol either and it is legal.

Having gone to HS and college in the 60's, I chose not to partake at that time and haven't since. However, I had numerous friends in college and after who were heavy tokers. Most but not all of them led very apathetic lifestyles with a loss of motivation. Former 4.0 students barely made it through college or dropped out all together. Just saying.

Bingo Chris. I might add that I know quite a few pilots and surgeons who self medicated with alcohol and or opiates. One of them was my father.

Now maybe we can move smartly along to the medical uses, or just throw the baby out with the bath water.

Personally, I'd hope my surgeon or pilot was well rested, happy and not on ANYTHING while I'm aboard.

Me too,let them party on the weekend,I had minor surgery last week and my Doctora was stone cold sober and did a fine job.

My comment was about Engineers and techy types. I have no doubt some
people can't handle pot just like some people can't handle Booze or Food.
By the time a person goes through all the hoops to be an Engineer for
example pretty much all the unmotivated people are long long gone. I do
not think Pot and Booze are good for children. Save it for college :-)
