I was retired by the time Covid hit us but I’ve often wondered if I could have had the courage to spend hours taking care of these patients before the vaccines became available. My hat’s off to these heroes.

Mine too. The unknown is very scary. But, I also applaud those (patients/family/researchers) who sought information that may help in the event of future pandemics. Forward thinkers, all of them. I imagine that, one day, we will carry a copy of our own genome in our wallets... in the same manner that most of us carry our blood group card. If you can't change something, you may as well learn from it.

No kidding. The photos of body bags piled up and refrigerator trucks being used because the morgues were full were heart-wrenching. Read many posts from health care personnel regarding their exhaustion, frustration level, and that many hospitals didn't even have sufficient PPE for them. And they were begging people to mask up, stop ignoring gathering restrictions, and to get vaccinated when the vaccines became available, because the physical and emotional toll this was taking on them was immense.

They even had patients who weren't going to make it who refused to believe they were dying of Covid, because they were firmly convinced it was a hoax.
