How many expats live in Chapala?

Apparently less than 5,000! I'd always thought it was around 10K. From where I got that number, who knows but according to this article we're looking at 4798 living in Chapala, while only 206 of you in Jocotepec! About 10K living in Guadalajara/Zapopan.

En Chapala viven 4,798 extranjeros y en Jocotepec 206. En Vallarta 5,152, y en Cihuatlán (Barra de Navidad y Melaque) 398.

En cuanto a la Zona Metropolitana, la mayoría se concentra en Guadalajara; aquí viven 5,625 extranjeros, y le sigue Zapopan, con 4,695.

Y curiosamente el boom inmobiliario también se refleja en la población extranjera. Son 431 personas de otras nacionalidades las que viven en Tlajomulco, que supera a Tlaquepaque, con 346 y por mucho a Tonalá, que tiene registro apenas de 3 extranjeros viviendo en su territorio.

I wonder how they calculate the numbers? Based on FM3s and FM2s? I doubt there are 400 living in Barra and Melaque. Most of them spend only part of the year there.

That's the census sticker. They came around my town - part of Jocotopec, and I was never home when they were here, but they put a sticker on my door any way. I wonder what they counted me a - Mexican or NOB?
