My Doctor cautioned against the reading of the MRI as given in the report. Without knowledge of the patient complaint, how do you know best what to look for? This may be true everywhere. He said that one conclusion was just not accurate. That said, the quality was fine for my Doctor and we were able to determine a treatment plan. Appointment was available in a few days and paid 5,000 pesos. As of a few month's ago, this is the same as in the Michigan if you don't use insurance.

Usually, well always in Canada and the USA a request for a MRI by the referring physician gives a brief history of the complaint and what pathology is suspected or should be ruled out. Do I understand correctly that you went for the MRI without such a referral? Most referring specialists in my experience have some degree of familiarity with MRI and can read the images. However, a family physician would be totally at sea and the images would be Greek to him.

Sorry as my post may have been misleading. I am also assuming the requesting specialist here gave a brief history when submitting the request. He merely expressed that he wanted to do his own analysis of the result and he indeed disagreed quite pointedly with parts of the report.

But I now recall reading about IBM teaching an Artificial Intelligence program to read X-rays for cancer. The programming team had difficulty, then discovered the Doctors had quite poor reproducibility of their own readings when presented with the same images on different times.

Perhaps this is just another reinforcement to the idea of always getting a second (and then if necessary-a third) opinion.
