HEADS UP! ATM FRAUD!
Beware of the Multiva bank machine at SUPERLAKE.
Because I don't use my access card very often (once every two weeks), I was able to pinpoint exactly where and when the fraud occurred on August 4th.
I tried to get money on Saturday without luck and today without luck because my card has been blocked. To make a long story short, a new card will be sent to my stepson and he will courier it to me. Luckily I have another access card. I've had to jump through a million hoops today on the phone to get this straightened out.
Consider yourselves warned and try to only deal with a machine that is on bank premises. I will never use the one in SuperLake again and I don't usually but it was an emergency.

Are you saying that the Multiva machine somehow made your card to not work? How is this fraud?

It was used fraudulently immediately AFTER using THAT machine... three times to be exact.
There are devices that can copy your card and/or key strokes.

Multiva does not own those or service those machines, it is a private company, that does, and Multiva gets a cut for letting them use their name

Surely if it has Multiva's name on it then it is Multiva "problem"artsnob wrote:Multiva does not own those or service those machines, it is a private company, that does, and Multiva gets a cut for letting them use their name

That explains why it was fraud. It wasn't clear at first.

Also, no fees for Multiva clients, use it all the time for my Multiva account, never had a problem.
So sorry ferret, but you are probably right, someone inserted one of those slick copying devices into the card insert.

Re: HEADS UP! ATM FRAUD!
That's exactly what I think happened slainte 39.
I just think that atm's attached to the banks are better monitored and safer. And I often use the Multiva machines attached to the Multiva Bank although I liked it better when they only had one machine in there.
It's been a very long time since this kind of thing happened to me. Last time was for New Years Eve in Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately the restaurant where my credit was used (out of my sight twenty years ago) had no idea that it hadn't been used in months and it was the only charge I had made on the account. They were busted for big time fraud of many other cards shortly after that.
It happens even when you take all precautions. Just a heads up.

This SuperLake ATM is the one that dispensed counterfeit pesos to me back in March. Note to self (and to everyone): avoid this ATM like the plague.

Re: HEADS UP! ATM FRAUD!
I realize it may be considered an antique approach to shopping, but my esposo and I stop by our bank, take out the cash we expect to need and pay cash for everything. Our only use of the credit card is for out of the country purchases. My husband carries his cash in a zippered inside pocket of a "flak jacket" and I carry my wallet in an heavy duty shoulder purse that never leaves my body in a store. Windows stay rolled up in parking lots. After 16 years in Mexico, we've never lost a peso to thieves.

Same here. I withdraw every 2-3 weeks and walk around with only the cash that I think I’ll need. But now that I’m back in Texas because of Covid it’s safer to pay with debit card than to handle cash.
