Hey great Zed. Nperf is a winner.Zedinmexico wrote:I switched to nperf (just put this into google) and it shows results that are correct. This is what ILOX uses. It gives some very interesting data.

Re: ILOX
There are many and they all provide different answers. FAST.com is from Netflix and is optimized for their service. speedof.me is very good because it doesn't use layered animation, or have more than a couple of ads on the page. You can download the Ookla app (from speedtest.net); it eschews the ads that the Web version uses. speedsmart is another... you should always run 2 or 3 and eventually you will be able to determine which seems to be more accurate.

Re: ILOX
My ilox was down for about 30 minutes this morning in Ajijic. Anyone else?

Re: ILOX
Mine was down for two and a half weeks. The guy came at noon today and gave me a new modem.
He told me that the iLox network had been hacked by someone in San Juan Cosala. They do not know who. So, they are picking and choosing who gets the limited supply of modems that they do have to be installed by the TWO engineers that they have.
I told him that iLox's biggest problem was their lack of communication. If people knew what was going on they would, perhaps, not be so irate. If you're rude and aggressive, you will wait a LOT longer for service.
Take it in stride. Shit happens. And it's a really, really good idea to have a back up for many things in Mexico.

Re: ILOX
I wonder what they mean by "the network was hacked"? Never heard that one before.

I certainly don't know how it would or could be done. On the other hand, baby monitors can be hacked, computers can be hacked and cell phones can be hacked.... and I don't know how to do any of those either.

All sorts of software runs on the network elements to manage security and bandwidth. That may be what they meant.CanuckBob wrote:I wonder what they mean by "the network was hacked"? Never heard that one before.

Re: ILOX
Well my modem was hacked and destroyed. New white modem had very complicated password installed by two techs and three phone calls. Another friend had been hacked but modem was not destroyed password was changed to hacked. I imagine they are taking the bad modems and putting new firmware to restore them back to normal and be reused. Wish they would talk to us.

Ilox has been down all morning. They told me there is a power outage somewhere affecting their service.

Power was out on revolution where ILOX office is with the equipment to connect to the internet. Thats why you saw a LOS light blinking on your modem. (Loss of signal) Power came back on and internet came up at 1pm in SE SAT.

I find it hard to believe that iLox would run anything out of a business office that is set up only for customer relations. They would have to have massive amounts of backbone infrastructure. All they have is two PCs. And if you go in with a technical problem, they phone the service centre.

You missed the fairly large rack of telecom equipment and look at the ceiling and all the cables in trays. Not sure what it does but no power took us all down.

Re: ILOX
I know about the equipment there, but I can't imagine it would be a primary source of the infrastructure. It just does not make sense from a support or a security POV. However, I don't know who to ask to get a considered answer. Certainly not the two that work in the office.
