TIP for new vehicle
Hola
I am in Canada right now and I am wondering how to proceed with my TIP when purchasing a new car.
My TIP is good till January 4 2021 when I will get my temporary residence visa renewed.
When purchasing a vehicle here in Canada how does one get the current TIP linked to the new car ?
TIA.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
You can't. The TIP is tied to ONE vehicle only. If you didn't hand in the TIP when you crossed the border, then your deposit is lost.
This is going to cause you problems with the new car you are trying to bring in... one car to a person.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
If you have a partner, maybe you can put new car registration into his/her name?? But if other car was registered jointly then either name on new registration could be an issue.
Knew a couple this happened to; they had to bring first car to border to remove TIP. Since they wanted both cars in MEX, they re-registered cars in US, one in each name instead of both jointly. That was several years ago.
Maybe ask Spencer to see if he knows a work around.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
The short answer is: You must return the car with the TIP to the border, they remove the sticker, you get the receipt, you remove the car from Mexico and then proceed to get a new vehicle; either in Canada or Mexico, since you have a Residente Temporal Visa. You may then get an Importada Temporal (TIP) for the new car, if it is Canadian. Note: You may not drive a Mexican plated car in Canada, if you are Canadian, in most cases.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
I think you can for 30 or 60 days. You will need insurance though.

You could just fly back, buy a MXN plated car and be content to never bring a foreign plated car down again?
But not sure answer to this: can you register a car in Jalisco with an RT (or do you need RP)???

RT is fine. Just not an FMM.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
for what it's worth here is the short version of what happened.
I wasn't planning on getting a new car I had to get a new car.
A body shop in Riberas that was repairing a dent set my car on fire when grinding. It took from March 10th to May 12th before I could leave Lakeside. I had to threaten with going to the Presidente of Chapala before the shop would do anything. They wanted me to pay half.
When I got back to Canada I had a couple of electrical problems and when I took the cowling off it was not a new wiring harness but spliced together and extra wires loose. They said they put in a new wiring harness. I could not check before I left because I couldn't afford any further delays or my work status at home would of been lost.
All 3 mechanics I have been to all said to get rid of the car.
I can not afford to buy a car for Mexico and buy a new car for here in Canada. We can put my wife's name on the new car, she wasn't on the present car , but she has no drivers licence to show for the TIP.
I have emailed Spencer. I hope he can help me.

Without a DL, will she be able to get Canadian car insurance, as the car owner/registrant? It would be a problem in US.

If I was to drive down to Nogales in September who knows if the borders would even be open.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
I emailed SAT/Aduana a week ago and they came back say YES you can cancel a TIP from abroad. The lady laid it out on how to do it. Step by step and it's very easy. I have attached a copy of the for you fill out. Then you send the form with the TIP including hologram, copy of passport, letter of extension of TIP, 1st year temp visa. Now there a 7 different categories that you can cancel a TIP under. In my case it is Vendido. Also she explained I will get my deposit back as long as it's before my TIP expiry date.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
We have had people who have tried and had aduana goof it up, take months or lose paperwork. There used to be a special procedure for Canadians but the 2 most recent aduana manuals have nothing. Best to wait if possible to do it at a consulate close when they have a program to know for sure but we have been waiting for them to start the programs again and nada due to the virus. I mean here it says apostilled DMV document, no DMV nor apostilles in Canada. best wishes

Thanks for the good news. The problem is that I can't wait. My car is dangerous to drive.

Re: TIP for new vehicle
FYI
After talking on the phone with my contact at Aduana she said that Canadian's use their vehicle registration as we have no DMV. The same way we get a TIP we use our vehicle registration. As for not being a apostilles in Canada that's ok because if you send an original of the vehicle transfer papers they will accept that. You only need to apostilles if it is a copy.

Did you get your TIP cancelled through the mail?
