Chillin, your South African landlord could have protected his flock of sheep with dogs. There are several breeds that guard herds of animals very efficiently.
I use jenny donkeys to protect my baby calves from coyotes, they don't much like dogs either.

Police have been quoted as saying that the shooter did not legally own any of the weapons that he used in the shooting.

Re: Canada bans assault rifle's
I'm just reading that the shooter used "long guns"' (one of the weapons “could be described” as a military-style assault rifle) now banned , along with "several semi-automatic pistols and two semi-automatic rifles". No details yet, though. From Global News:
The ban covers several broad rifle models, including the AR-15 family of rifles used in Sandy Hook, Conn., Parkland, Fl., Las Vegas, Nev., and many of the deadliest mass shootings in the U.S.
The legislation also targets the Ruger Mini-14 used in the École Polytechnique massacre in Montreal Que., in 1989, as well as the M14 used to kill three RCMP officers in Moncton, N.B. in 2014.
