We were visiting in Vista del Lago (Country Club) this afternoon and saw a huge festival with music and lots of fireworks going oni in San Nicolás de Ibarra.

Any idea why?

Probably the same saint all the villages are celebrating. Not village-specific.

It MAY be that who knows.. My grandfather was called Nicolas and we celebrated his name´s day in December  but there are a bunch of St Nicolas so nothing sure.. In France the saints´ day is celebrated like a birthday so it is one more dinner!  At least no cohetes , just good wine Very Happy

My grandmother was Andree so we celebrated the 30th of November as well...

Actually I would think there are more saints than days... In France people usually chose names from the calender and the calendars are published with the saints names so we know each day which saint we are celebrating..With all the Muslim kids we are getting it became much more difficult to ask people to pick a name from the saints name so now on the latest calender I notice that they have come up with a whole lot more Arabic names of saints ... I guess the Catholic church
had to dig up their archives or come up with new saints... ir they totally forgot about the saints and added Arabic names.. who knows..

The post office and fire department produce the calendars and sell them so they may come up with those as well who knows..

Probably more like 3 for each day dancing around up there, and no, I can´t name them all.  The most important one, as you know, is St. Patrick.     lol!

Much easier to name the "Virgens".

I like the calendars sold at the Belva and Enrique Velazquez Art Gallery on 16 de Septiembre in Ajijic. They have nice big squares to make notes in and list the important civic events for both NOB and Mexico. A few saints' days are included, so I know which one all the cohete noise is honoring.

been using for ever.. I like them because they are not sleek and you can write on them and as you say the square are big.. For me they are useless for my good wishes cards for Saints day but they have the US and Mexican Holidays , which is pretty handy in Mexico..
