Motorcycles being impounded in Chapala.
For the last two, maybe three days, I have seen several motorcycles being put on trucks with a lot of cops present. This was right near Soriana. It didn't appear to be any accident situation. Several cops and their vehicles.
Any idea or what's happening?

They're cracking down on the laws regarding motos.

They are stopping ATVs too and enforcing all laws. They have also staged it near the WalMart intersection.

Re: Motorcycles being impounded in Chapala.
They currently have their flatbed Grua in front of the Haciendas, catching scofflaws coming in from Guad in cars, motos, and trucks. I've noticed that suddenly moto riders are wearing neon vests and helmets and I have made it through Chapala several days this week without any motos riding in my blind spot on the right-hand side. I hope they continue to seize uninsured, and unsafe vehicles and those that are driven by unlicensed drivers. We're all safer for their efforts.

Good move. I'm sick and tired of being passed on the inside by carts travelling at 60 kph.

Much fewer moto drivers on the road! All remaining driving responsibly and with helmets and vests. It's a miracle!
One more to go, though, a jerk neighbor of mine still roaring around the village on his quad running his dog on leash beside. One day . . .

Re: Motorcycles being impounded in Chapala.
Just a note , My wife and I went to Guad on Thursday to get our drivers License's 1st. timers. Have been here for 2 years so about time. We hired someone to help us. All went well, it's a 1 1/2 hour drive each way to Guad and back. We left Ajijic 9:30. The process took me an hour and half, being 69 I got to the front of lines, my wife being much younger took about 30 min. longer. We had all paper work in order. One thing, if you want to get a motorcycle license at the same time, take an extra set of papers, you will get 2 license's. total cost $2500 for guide w/ tip, plus about $600 for the License's. The Test was very easy, 10 questions all Pictures of road signs
you have to identify. License is good for 4 years. If you don't have an Mexican License, go get one . Another Beautiful Day in Ajijic !

I have to renew mine next month. Just for general info since there has been some conflicting info, for the new license did you have to take the driving test since I assume you gave a NOB license?

CB , my wife and I both have a valid driver License's from Alaska and we did not require a driver test. There are 8 stations in the process, at station # 7 you are asked to show your Valid Driver license.

Coming back from lunch at about 1 PM this Sunday, I saw a truck on the Carretera in La Floresta that had just loaded a car thereon and was about to drive away.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the people/facilitators that go w/you for a driver license or anything else, are self employed. Yes? No?
If they are employed, then a tip would be in order, but if self-employed, then what is the tip for? Are you saying they are charging too little, or should charge more?
I was told you don't tip the owner of a business.
