I'm not sure what to make of the article. According to the article it states that narco banners were left all over Gdl today claiming that "the stealing of oil is now over and that they will support the measures of the federal government and that they will no longer steal the petroleum," signed the New Jalisco Generation Cartel. It also says local authorities have not commented yet.

I understand the NJG is sweeping out the local non affiliated dealers. It likely started in Chapala a few weeks ago and probably isn't over yet.

I guess all the cops are in Chapala, I've seen them all over the place recently driving up and down Madero. Racing around like crazy with their lights on.

Interesting. Perhaps the NJGC is paying back AMLO for ending the "war on drugs". Probably not a good time to be in the gas cartel.....

a woman @ dinner tonight mentioned there were a couple of men shot (murdered?) on the corner of Constitution just west of House of Music. west of Revolution.. 3 ambulances, lots of flashing lights, response from police. I go along that one way road all the time. Usually ~ 8 sullen young men; tonight only one.. very watchful.. .

To compare Ajijic to Iraq is ludicrous.

In Iraq they take out 40 to 50 people indiscriminately at a time with car bombs targeting subjects for politics, religion, or tribe identification (not issues here) and you probably wouldn´t even hear about a couple of drug dealers shot on a street corner.

It seems difficult to maintain the proper or real perspective for a lot of people around here. At least we haven´t had the murder of a church full of people like in small town Texas.

Actually, on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:45 pm TWO men were shot. On the corner of Aldama and Guadalupe Victoria. This has been a known seller’s corner forever. The whole neighborhood was either hiding behind closed doors, and others rushed to look when the shots stopped. To date, neither man has passed away. One is a young druggie, a narcomenudista (small time seller) who has been on that corner now for about two years. He works for the “right” side, and was selected to sell there after the corner was cleaned up by “mafia”. The other was a middle aged man stopping to chat in front of the corner tienda on his way home from his job a block away. He has absolutely nothing to do with drugs.... there were other druggies Hanging out nearby.

That is terrible that an innocent bystander was hit. If the other guy worked for the "right side" (which I assume is the NJGC) then more is sure to follow.

Meanwhile in Barrie, Ontario, police rescued 45 Mexicans that where held captive as slaves and farmed out to the hotel industry as cleaners. They where not in Canada legally (MSN news about 2 weeks ago).

Also I think about 2 months ago a Canadian was gunned down in Mexico city. He worked for one of the cartels. His name was something like Amrik Punjab.

or more simply local gangs are having a turf war.. A little hard to believe that cartels would bother with a small retailer in Ajijic . Probably did not pay the supplier and he got shot. Chapala may be different but it could also be a re alignment of the local gangs as well. Whatever it is , I hope they quickly solve it.
