How long will he last? Food or fodder for thought.
I don't know if "Jimmy the Greek" is giving odds on how long AMLO will last, but is is a queston.
I don't think discussing politics is being involved, so I'll give my thoughts.
I like the guy, but the cartels don't. His life has already been threatened. Add to this the fact he has shunned personal security, and recently a youth "breached" the unofficial bodyguards for AMLO, it doesn't look good. I mean, the cartel guys have to be unhappy with his current plan to stop gas theft as I'm sure it's put a lot of bad-guys out of business, not to mention insiders at Pemex and stations that were selling stolen gas.
Of course the other side is that he seems to be taking the position that he will stop trying to stop drug dealings, since it seems to be like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon. Here is what he said today (or yesterday?)
The drug war is over and arresting drug lords is no longer a priority, President López Obrador told reporters yesterday.
“We are no longer at war,” he announced after a reporter asked if the government had captured any crime bosses since anti-fuel theft operations began in December.
“We haven’t detained any cartel leaders because that’s not our principal function. The government’s foremost responsibility is to ensure public security; our strategy no longer includes capturing drug lords.”
So if AMLO departs, who steps into his shoes? Will it go back to business as usual?

Maybe the drug cartels will become his bodyguards and help him wipe out the gas cartels since they are not one and the same. Past presidents have used certain cartels to help police and destroy other cartels too.

Well, he sure isn't the Trump of Mexico.
Win, lose or draw, I feel/believe he is sincere in wanting to do good for the people and country.

IMO true. Who says one person can't make a difference in the World. Many have, some positive and some negative.

What's to Like?? Gas shortage for little or no effect. Support for the other dictator in the region? Illegal referendums? Not an auspicious start in my opinion.

Really?? Are they still stealing the gas in the same quantities as prior to the change in distribution?

Found out this week that all the gasoline sold in the indigenous communities i Chiapas is 16 pesos when Pemex is 18.80 so draw your own conclusion on the source of that gasoline...

Whose yardstick are we using to measure AMLO? The guy's been presidente for a couple of months and the peso has strengthened against the U.S. dollar, the multi-billion-dollar boondoggle airport project has been cancelled, this insane "war on drugs" has been undeclared and replaced by a war on corruption, beginning with an end to the looting of Pemex by organized crime. In addition, the man has shown the courage to stand up to U.S. hegemony in the region by refusing to cooperate in the overthrow of the government of Venezuela and is working to achieve a peaceful negotiated settlement. Sounds good to me.

I second that. Couldn't have said it better.
