Re: Ajijic Malecon Bench Project
Not sure yet. Still trying to squeeze the muni for the $3000 pesos for materials. Once we get the materials I will post again for assistance. Thanks all.

Are you still taking private donations, or are you looking at only the muni at this point?

Re: Ajijic Malecon Bench Project
Well I really want to see the muni step up to the plate. We funded the entire rebuild of the benches and bridges so the least they can do is pay for maintenance materials each year. It's simply the point of the matter to me. Thanks for the offer though.......

Re: Ajijic Malecon Bench Project
Well it would appear the muni is broke and won't pay a dime. We need about $2000 pesos for stain and materials to do the benches. I'll kick in the first $500. I know a couple others were asking so let me know. The gardening guild is going to work on funds for the bridges.

Apparently with the new federal government the state is not receiving as much federal money as they once did hence the municipalitys don't receive as much from the state.

They have been broke and in deep debt for a long time.....owe many entities and never enough dinero for all the projects and the politicos personal expense accounts,,,,,(if you know what I mean)…..
Political positions have for a long time been one of the few ways that the poor could become affluent, or the rich become richer. Just one window of opportunity in a land with few opportunties.

Yeah, I’m quite sure those expense accounts were the first to suffer.

Re: Ajijic Malecon Bench Project
When dealing with the government you are very lucky if they offer anything.. Just take what they offer. Tt does not do any good to talk about what they should do or could do or what happens to the money because that will not take anyone anywhere. Be gracious thank them and take whatever they offer..and take it right away before they take a chance to change their mind,
A couple of years ago , I took their check for a project and had to hold it until they told me the account had money and then I cashed it the minute they say it was ok.. That was Chiapas but it is the same everywhere.

Re: Ajijic Malecon Bench Project
The "muni" knows that you guys will step up and fix the problem, so they just sit back and look good for the pictures.
Re: Ajijic Malecon Bench Project
gvprod, Does it matter ? They are offering labor , just take it and they will take credit, let them, that is the price to pay..
You can have new benches and the government will offer labor and will take credit for it or you can sit and bitch about the government and get nothing.
That is the choice. Bob is being pragmatic and will get things done.. Good for him.
In CHiapas I have been dealing with the government for the last 14 years and it is exactly what I get when I want something from them. Getting some of their cooperation is an accomplishment when you want to do something that was not on their priority list to start with.
That is life in Mexico get used to it.

Agree.
Curious though, CB, how long ago did the muni agree to provide labor for you?

Truer words never spoken.....agree 100%...I don´t why people can´t get this through their heads and still waste theirs, and everybody else´s time, with their continual whining and bitching.

I think everyone here is quite aware of that fact and has been for quite some time but I didn’t know venting wasn’t allowed.

Of course “venting” is allowed, as is the reaction to venting, whining, bitching, griping, and complaining when it gets tiresome. When it comes to these types of projects you have people like CBob who just roll up their sleeves and get her done while others prefer to sit on their asses while “venting” about the way they think things should be and how the government “should” be doing it but isn’t.

In other words, Carry Bean, it wasn't enough to just pitch in money to get the job done with the hope that the government understood preventive maintenance. We're now on the hook forever... or not.

I am afraid you are right Ferret..or you can let the benches go to hell... It probably is the choice.

No one is on the hook. You choose to donate money or not. There are many more people who don’t donate than do. But everyone who goes to the malecon gets to enjoy the results. I think it would be nicer if those who do not believe it is the responsibility of residents to maintain the benches would skip these threads instead of venting about how people who contribute are suckers being taken advantage of.
