Notary/Notario
Who is the favorite? Never used one before. There is one in CV and one just east of the mural on the way into Chapala. There was some scandal. . .I only need copies.

Re: Notary/Notario
Use Notario #5 in Chapala. Fast and cheap for notarized copies.

Re: Notary/Notario
You are closer to the one in Chula Vista... and that company minds their p's and q's... and keeps their mouths shut when they are libeled... which turned out to be false accusations anyway.

Re: Notary/Notario
There are a few, trick is finding them in, Notary across from us (Notary 5) is usually in 10am to 2pm daily, there is one on outskirts of Ajijic but I dont know if she is in daily. There is the one in CV but not sure of his schedule.

Re: Notary/Notario
I used the one in Chula Vista and really liked him for my will. Notario 5 across from Spencer is good. I used him for my house closing. I think the one involved in a big scandal was in Chapala Centro.

Thanks everyone. I will start at the one in Chapala tomorrow as I will be in the area. If I can't catch him I will move on to the CV one.

Re: Notary/Notario
Yes, very helpfull to have that list
I've used 4 different one and have found the one below to be the most knowledgeable and helpful;
JORGE LUIS RAMOS URIARTE
Vicente Guerrero 106-A
45900 Chapala, Jalisco
Tel.: (376) 765-4116 / 4166
For just getting something notarized this one was fine;
LUIS ENRIQUE RAMOS BUSTILLOS (#2)
CARRETERA CHAPALA-JOCOTEPEC # 268 LOCALES 3 Y 4
CENTRO, CHAPALA
Here are a few more;
Jocotepec (#1) is Juan Carlos Lopez Jara. His address is Hidalgo Sur 26 which is in the plaza just to the south of the municipal offices. He is upstairs. He doesn't speak English but will call in a translator. (387) 763 0252.
Ixtlahuacan Pascual Avila Perez, Notaria Publica No. 1
Jardin Plaza No. 2,
376 762 0240 or 376 762 004
Tuxcueca Sergio Macias Jr. (son of notary #5 Sergio Macias).

What's up with the numbers? Is that a ranking of some kind?

I THINK it may be the order in which they became Notarios within a certain jurisdiction.

Nope, it's just to identify, same as house numbers on a street. There are 5 numbers for the Chapala municipio.
Just because my house number is higher than my next door neighbor doesn't mean it's "ranked" anywhere.

Ok, thanks.
Sooo, you are higher than your neighbor. . .the polite thing to do would be to share. . .

Re: Notary/Notario
We've used notario #2 for years. Easy parking, efficient office personnel and no problems. The libelous accusation turned out to be without basis.

Re: Notary/Notario
There are a limited number of commissions (actually called FIATs) in each municipality. The number is the number issued, not necessarily the first.
Here is my recollection of who are oldest here
Antonio Basulto #1
Sergio Macias #5
Juan #4
Luis en CV #2
Jorge Luis
Sergio Macias hijo
Adriana Villasenos #3

Re: Notary/Notario
My Notario 5 experience today:
I sat in the empty reception area for 15 to 20 minutes and the ONLY person who acknowledged my presence was the kind woman with a mop. During that time, a woman left from the back and a lawyer with an assistant and a stack of papers arrived and took a seat. Another lawyer arrived and chose to pace the floor instead of sitting. It's a tiny room and still no receptionist. FINALLY a woman emerged from the back, sat down at the desk, never acknowledged my presence, and began dealing with the pissed, pacing lawyer. I tried to catch her eye - unsuccessfully. She could not provide the pacing lawyer with his copies so he got more pissed. Finally he sat down and started making phone calls. At this point the other lawyer and his assistant moved it right in and the sulky receptionist started working with him. Still my presence was completely ignored. I figured lawyer #1 was an omen and gathered up my shit and walked out. I did not utter a single word, pissed as I was, nor did I slam the door as much as I wanted to.
Next stop Notario #2 CV:
As I pulled up the smiling elderly gardner opened the door for me and invited me to enter. When I did, I was immediately welcomed to a very nice reception area by a lovely young lady speaking perfect English.
She told me all I had to know, took my documents and made copies, and told me to return tomorrow for my notarized documents. A truly good experience.
You were right, Ferret! What a contrast!

Re: Notary/Notario
Glad you had an experience comparable to mine Trailrunner. LUIS ENRIQUE RAMOS BUSTILLOS (#2) was the Notary who did the closing on my house. Have also had documents notarized and he did my Mexican will for the house since I couldn't name a beneficiary in the actual deed because he's my stepson and not my "real" son. Mexico is kinda antiquated that way. But, whatever, the will did the trick.
City Hall also made a typographical error in my last name for my house taxes... and that #2 office took care of that as well without charging me.
I've been very happy with their work and I'm glad you were too.

Maybe those numbers are "rankings" and he earned that No. 5........
