Can anyone here offer some information on the extent of medical services in Manzanillo? Hospitals, emergency services, clinics, etc. I have been online searching and haven't come up with much. Thanks.

I did a search on "hospitals in Manzanillo, Mexico" and came up with a few references, among which was:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g150791-i474-k2474424-Recommended_Manzanillo_Hospital_for_Foreigners-Manzanillo_Pacific_Coast.html

Hope this is useful.

I am also interested as I spend a lot of time working in the bush in and around Manzanillo.

The ECHAURI CLINIC was mentioned with a first person account on the link that Gringal posted.
Personally, if I was tromping around the bush, I would be checking to see which hospital or clinic had snake bite antidote.

A couple days ago I posted some FAcebook locals pages for Manzanillo that should be helpful. Search for earlier this week. An inquiry on one of those pages would probably result in current firsthand information.

Or check out Tomzap, which is the webboard for the Costalegre. My friends who live in Melaque and Barra use the hospitals in Manzanillo.  I think they've always had good care. I think EMS is spotty with Cruz Roja/Verde basic life support and drive fast if you're lucky. Ask on Tomzap.

Thanks for all the links. I spent a couple hours looking online for some first hand information on local hospitals and clinics. I read one review about the Echauri Hospital but no others. Street views that I found showed very small Hospital buildings and clinics. No info on CT Scanners, Trauma and ER services, MRI, Surgical services, ICU beds and services, etc. The Navy hospital was mentioned but not much info or opinions. There is a fair amount of high end homes and condos so they must get care locally somehow. I will go through the Tomzap forums and see what comes up. So far it looks like if things get serious medically, Guadalajara is the fall back location. I was surprised to read and see photos of the terrible smog problem caused by the power plant that burns crude oil even though it has a LNG capability. For me, non-stop flights with Alaska Airlines to Los Angeles are a plus. I will mine Tomzap for more info. Not interested much in La Manzanilla as Manzanillo has more to offer. Since the Naval hospital is said to be a full-service facility, it might be more of what I am looking for. Thanks, solajijic. I found your previous post.

Lost Dog, you best bet for serious stuff would be Colima. About an hour away.

We used to go there nearly every year for a beach fix. At one point, there was some improvement in the bad smog problem, but then, we had a two year gap before returning this year and the smog was worse than ever. I would not even consider living there under the current conditions.

Actually of the 600 or so reptiles in Mexico, the world's largest concentration, very few are poisonous. The snake is rattlesnake. There are some nasty lizards, but they would not be near this area. A Doctor who worked the small villages in the mountains above Puerto Vallarta told me that the worst bite was from a giant centipede, also important to recognise the distinctive nests of black widow spiders. If sleeping outdoors, or under a palapa, make sure you have a mosquito net. This is not necessarily for the mosquitoes but because of the assassin beetle, which is attracted by the C02 while you sleep.

I located the Facebook page GoGoZLO thanks to Solajijic's previous posting and joined it. That is the kind of portal I was trying to find. Gringal, there is discussion and photos regarding the horrific air pollution from the power plant. Many posts from frustrated and angry expats who relocated or visit annually. I agree that the situation there is keeping me wary of moving or visiting for the time being. A travesty but I will monitor the FB page to see if any positive changes emerge.

I actually have never seen any snakes while in the bush. Lots of lizards, spiders, scorpions and ticks though. One of my colleagues was bitten by a spider or tick about 6 weeks ago and the bite turned staph and he has been out of action ever since, attending the clinic every second day to get the wound cleaned. The hole was about 1" round and about 3/4" deep. It is just starting to heal now.

OUCH! That sounds like a spider bite to me. Some spiders can produce a bite that liquefies the surrounding tissue. Remember e-Raq! And I'm really glad that your colleague is paying attention to their health. Here's to a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Sounds like the results of a brown recluse bite. Really nasty and VERY slow healing.

The trouble with e-Raq's situation was that she decided to be her own physician and didn't seek treatment until it was way too late. Very sad case. I've had a few bites while living here that needed, and got, professional care.

I totally agree Gringal.
Read this... long article and gruesome pics. https://www.emedicinehealth.com/spider_bite_brown_recluse_spider_bite/article_em.htm#pictures_of_brown_recluse_spider_bite_11_days_to_10_months

If I was going out in the bush after what happened to CBob's colleague, I'd be wearing hip waders. The bite itself is not earth shattering and is rarely noticed until after the fact.
When we went up to help a friend rebuild a cottage in spring of '97, I got bitten on my eyelid by an ordinary old spider. My eye become swollen shut in a hurry and didn't open for a week. Antihistamines helped and that was all that was recommended by the Doctor (for me).
Fumigation anyone?
