Not sure that's the right name, but it's a new place on the carretera in SAT on the north lateral street just west of Modelorama, has anyone eaten there? What is the menu, how was the food bla bla bla ? Looks pretty from the outside.

TIA

Art gallery and restaurant specializing in all sorts of coffees. Breakfast and lunch menus but haven't tried the food.  Operated by some lovely young ladies from Guadalajara,

I think the proprietors are a young couple who recently had a beautiful little girl. They are open for breakfast from 8:00 - 12:00 and then lunch is served til 6:00. It's a beautiful tranquil space. The coffee is really nice which you can drop in and take out. I haven't tried the food yet, but friends who have ordered were pleased.

I also, understand that the couple live upstairs above the restaurant.

Thanks, guys. I took a walk over there today to see for myself. It is indeed nice, elegant even. Well designed, well-appointed, loved the cookbooks, and the garden is attractive and soothing.

I had the dog so I just asked to look at a menu. There was no hostess or manager to greet me, only a couple of girls working the coffee stand who were not very friendly and a bit privileged feeling.

The menu looked good, they have some creative healthy attempts - smoothies, salads, Indian bowl, and another bowl that appeals to me and to others who like to eat healthy. For me, a welcome change from the endless burgers, pizza, and rib joints that abound here. I look forward to trying their menu.

They are more expensive than most other places around here for lunch but if the value in the food is there, I won't mind. Nor did it seem to bother the sea of white heads that had nearly filled the place up!

Ruben has a place at Plaza Montaña called Montaña Cafe on the Carratera at Colon. This is a new restaurant coffee house in San Antonio that is called Cafe Montaña. A bit confusing, I know.

My lunch group went there and it was expensive and horrible, 2 hours to get food wrong checks wrong change bad food and they all said never again. There was only 7 of them for the reservation, oh and a friend went over there twice that day to confirm the reservation and they still didn't have it ready when they arrived at 1pm.

Okay, got it that you weren't happy. However, "bad food" doesn't tell us anything about the food, which has had good reviews from others, so please tell us what you meant by "bad".

About the rest of it.....I agree that it sounds way too disorganized at this point. No excuse.

Oh my. Well, I will wait for more reviews before I go.

Somebody spent a LOT of money on this place. If what you all are reporting is indicative of the place it won't survive the coming low season. Unless the owners are prepared to just keep pumping money into this pit.

What I didn't tell you is the only member of the staff I interacted with yesterday had a bad attitude, couldn't be bothered with a new potential customer and made it clear I was bothering her. I asked if they had a gluten free bread alternative (I have celiac and have to ask that of all restaurants) and she audibly sighed, looked up at me with complete exasperation, started to roll her eyes but caught herself in time, and said no.

The waitresses were rushing around and looked stressed.

They must be doing something right as there are cars galore out front every morning, including the Telmex crews sometimes.  Maybe it's just the coffee.

TR....speaking of gluten free, I have a celiac friend coning from the US and where do you recommend for breakfast.  He usually gets by anywhere, but it would be nice to take him somewhere where isn't so restricted.

1 Person ordered a ham and cheese quiche they kept coming out saying they had a vegetarian quiche, after the 3rd trip out she said fine I will take it, it had been microwaved at least 3 times all dried out and didn't have 1 vegetable in it, it was the ham and cheese one. Other people complained about bad lettuce in their salads but they did say the sandwiches which were expensive were very good.
2 hours to get food is ridiculous!!!!!

Cafe Montaña Empty Re: Cafe Montaña

Post by Rosa Venus Thu Feb 22, 2018 9:03 pm

As mentioned it's a very pretty space, elegant by local measure.

I ate a LATE lunch there, maybe 3:30, about three weeks ago. Service attentive and friendly. Ordered a ham sandwich with potato salad. Sandwich was fine, potato salad very good (fresh that day for sure). Neither portion was huge, so I'm sure those with big appetites or value diners won't be pleased. It was an ok light lunch for me.

The investment made is the spaces, and in the coffee making equipment, is impressive. The owners (?) a young Canadian fellow with a Guadalajara bride, I believe, were warm and welcoming.

I'll go back but not in a huge hurry. My impression was "light lunch or light breakfast or coffee/dessert place". It's definitely different than other restaurants so it's got that going for it!

P.S. Plus, for the Canadians among us, they had Nanaimo Bars and Butter Tarts on the menu! (I'm not sure what those are other than sweet. Never had them.  Very Happy )

See you there CBob. Haven't had a Nanaimo Bar in 15 years or a Butter Tart in 18 months. They better be the GOOD kind of BAD (for you)!

Do you like Walnuts and Raisins in your Butter Tarts?

Neither raisins nor walnuts! A true ORIGINAL butter tart that you can bite into and not have it dribble down your chin.

And....what's a "Namaino bar".
Obvious coming from a non-Canadian, eh? Suspect

Lots of recipes and info available on google. Sorry gringal but I've been on the computer all morning... NANAIMO bar... named after town on Vancouver Island where they originated. Both are decadently sweet. ;)
