BORDER RUNS
Hola:
Is there a business service in the Chapala area that makes regular runs to the border to pick up packages and mail for expats?
Thanks, Jeff

edited to add: This service is NOT for mail or personal packages... it is for things like ordering from Amazon or other online ordering. Everything is received on the U.S. side and is opened so that it can be transported easily and is easily viewed for import.

Thank you Ferret for the lead. I've already signed up.

Re: BORDER RUNS
One of Hugh's grandson's is now running this although Hugh is still involved. There is no automatic monthly letter any more. If you want to order something, you initiate the contact by sending an e-mail with a link to what you want to bring in and Isaac will reply with a yay or nay. If you get a yay, then order and send him a copy of the invoice. When you get the shipping confirmation and tracking number from the seller, then you forward that to him as well. You can usually track
the shipment yourself so you know when it arrived where it's supposed to. It's not a bad system to be able to get exactly what you want and, within a reasonable time, when you want it. I've been using the service since 2014 and have been happy.

Re: BORDER RUNS
I'll be buying items primarily at Amazon shipped to their US address. So, this service is perfect for my needs. Thanks again Ferret!

Re: BORDER RUNS
What does Hugh's service charge? By the weight, by the piece and we still pay duty, right? Also, what is the definition of "reasonable time"?
The service I am using now is not working out well.

Can you share with us who you are using now please? Hugh breaks the costs pretty clearly at his website http://www.zippmypackages.com/. Check it out.

Re: BORDER RUNS
Thanks, it seems complicated to me and I'm not sure it's a better deal than what I'm doing now or not.
I currently get mail and packages 2 ways, MX correos and Sol y Luna. I've had a MX POB since I've been here and have received mail and packages without a problem except it takes forever and my last credit card replacement never has arrived. I've never had to pay customs on any package received through correos. Also have an account with Sol y Luna which is more expensive but it is reliable and things arrive in a much more timely manner. I use it for things that I think might get stolen or take forever to get here through correos. I always have to pay customs on things that come with S y L. Nice people, check them out.
