Border Bridges
I'm driving into MX next month, and am currently planning the route/stops. I'll be crossing at Laredo, and I see that the wait times at the Columbia bridge are essentially non-existent for passenger cars. Is there some compelling reason more people don't use that bridge instead of Bridge 2? I read that you can get vehicle import permits there, so that can't be the reason. (I'll be bringing 2 dogs across, though it's my understanding all border crossings permit properly documented animals.)
Anyone have any experience/explanation? What am I missing?
Gracias.

Re: Border Bridges
Columbia is 20 miles up the river so some people don't want to go that far out of their way to cross that bridge. Only thing that comes to mind.

By the far the quickest crossing. Never a line up.

Re: Border Bridges
Thanks for the responses. I'd use that bridge but the person I'm driving down with is determined to make the Laredo/Ajijic run in one day, so we'll have to hit the border crossing well before Columbia's 8.00 opening :(

Re: Border Bridges
Making Ajijic in one day is easy with all the cuotas & bypasses open. Made the trip two weeks ago and made it in 9 hours

Only 9 hours from Laredo to Ajijic? Wow. Google Maps tells me it's 11 hours. What's your secret? :)

Re: Border Bridges
Set the cruise on 100 mph, only stop for gas. Google maps is way behind on times. The new cuota around SLP saves an hour and is not shown on google maps

100mph! Autobahn speed :) Alas, I'll be travelling with a friend who gets uncomfortable when the speedometer gets much above 65....
