Re: New Transito chief in Chapala
Did you ever see Ms Thang's post about entering the transito property in Riberas once when they were closed and she saw them all sitting around a table splitting up the money?
I bet our transitos have all bought their jobs.

I wanted to add, that in the short time I saw Tonio, the crosswalk attendant, I have never seen him so happy. He was the centre of attention, everyone was nice to him (instead of shooing him away) and I assume he earned a few pesos. Maybe if he could prove responsibility and reliability, this could become his niche. Certainly less money than a transito (not that they earn much, mind you).

Stopped by the transito office today and left a message for the jefe regarding a transito to direct traffic at the Wednesday tianguis in Ajijic. The guy I spoke to seemed to understand my Spanish and wrote a note on his pad. I live in Chapala so please let me know (here) if a transito actually shows next week.

Tónio is emotionally disturbed... almost everyone in the village knows him... and I’ve known him since he was quite young. I caught him one day trying to break into my car with a large screw driver, bending the upper part of the driver side door. Another time he managed to pick up my massive key ring from a counter when I turned my back. He gets chastised and just goes on his sad merry way. There are times he’ll tell you he’s leaving for “el Norte”, so many stories over the years. I’d always like to think he’s harmless, but he is very slick. As many of you know he’s been chased from many locations.

Someone told me that Tonio was the son of a transito. Perhaps he has been given the honorary crossing guard position??

Absolutely so Brigitte... his stories are legion. And change with the wind. But his family has always been in dire straights to my knowledge. You and I have probably known him about the same amount of time. (I’m the one who arranged for Lalo to give you Centli). Actually I’ll ask Lalo his real story later and try to give people an idea of who he really is.

Oh, that'll be interesting.
In terms of he being the son of a tránsito, I would label that highly unlikely since the tránsito crews around here change as often as the weather.

I don't know, but the old man, sort of in charge of Superlake chaos, Abuelo, calls him "el hijo de puta" right to his face, and he just laughs.
Its too bad for the car washers, but the new carwash at Centro Laguna mall (Ola La) does a wonderful job, and a "in and out" wash and vacuum costs 80 pesos. You will see a one legged car washer who can keep up with the young crew.
The funniest thing was someone who complained on TOB that the carwashers at Walmart, demanded 50 pesos to "watch" his car. No - some of them picked up what I believe is East L.A. accent, pronouncing "carwash" as "carwatch"

Re: New Transito chief in Chapala
Tonio´s real story would be interesting... oh ye his brother was a drug addict as well ...
When he was really little I gave him a birthday card with a little money and then he told me I did not leave money in the enveloppe... so no more money for him.. Then later on he was abusive to a friend so I told him off.. then he told a friend of mine he had a Canadian lover, an older guy who had given him a bicycle for some sexual act and then he was going to give him a car for who knows what he was going to do to him but I guess someone changed his mind because he never had a car , then he got a girlfriend and a kid and then and then.. this guy never quits..
Centli is now called Lalo and he is the nuttiest dog I have ever encountered.. he attacks himself when he eats and gets into big fight with the other male we have around...Thanks a lot Birdietwoshoes.. but he is my husband´s favorite!
