Transitos Merry Xmas
My friends father was driving his Canadian plated car to HSBC yesterday. When he left the bank and pulled out a transito told him to pull over. The transito pointed to the expired sticker (2010) on his Canadian license plate and said he was going to impound the car. He then went on to whine and moan about getting Xmas presents for his kids. Not knowing any better, my friends father offered him $1500 pesos which of course resolved the problem on the spot.......be warned, its Xmas and the transitos are in full force for mordida.

The last time he stopped me in the same place he stuck his hand in my window 5 times to shake my hand. He finally gave up and left with nada.

See? That's how you do it!
It's a game, sit back, get comfortable, smile, and play the game. I actually enjoy it. And they haven't got a a peso out of me since one episode in 2004. It's fun.

Totally agree because we all know better. I feel for the ones that are just here visiting for a few months and have no idea what game these dicks play. For someone who truly believes they will be impounding his car $1500 pesos probably felt like a bargain. He knows better now......

People, people....please know the Jalisco driving laws! It does say that the foreign plates should be current. I know in the past, they have not paid attention to this requirement but we are going to have local transitos that can and probably will be doing more of this...and not just seasonally. Creates a real "opportunity".

Re: Transitos Merry Xmas
Well that would invalidate virtually every Canadian and US plate down here other than the snowbirds and "South Dakota" people. Soon the impound yard will be full of foreign cars and golf carts.....
Another good reason to sell your car before moving here.

The newbies will give up the money cause they get nervous and don't know what to do. I have been by myself and gotten pulled over and I am just pleasant to them and they give up and send me on my way.

Got stopped by a transito the other day and was handed a paper about wanting a Christmas bonus. I smiled and said Feliz Navidad. They sit and wait to pounce all year, demand mordida, hustle and scare the newbies....then want a bonus?

Re: Transitos Merry Xmas
If they pulled me over and kindly asked for a Christmas bonus and nothing else I would probably give them $200 pesos and remind them to cut me some slack when they do see me doing something......jaja.

Does this person live in Lakeside year-round? And are they on a visitor, temporary or permanent visa? If they are temporal, then that car should have had a more current sticker. If they are permanent with a 2010 Canadian sticker, then that car is here illegally, isn't it? Maybe the transito was looking for mordida, but it sounds like that vehicle is running on an illegal sticker, whether in Mexico or in Canada!

Re: Transitos Merry Xmas
The driver‘s immigration status has nothing to do with it.
The fact that his license plate sticker is not current indicates that his vehicle is not legal to drive in Canada, or anywhere else.
