people of Ajijic go against transitos nd transitos retaliate but they cannot do nothing if people are not breaking the law so do not break the law and go after them if they ask for bribery...and the beat goes on.

If they stick to that policy it will be great!

Although I understand the reasons, II really like the idea of stopping businesses from blocking parking spaces for their own personal/business use.

In Chapala, I see the cops telling people who are double parked to move on, If there is no one in the car, then I'm not sure if they wait to ticket them or call the towing service. Maybe the cops should "Boot" double parked cars with no one in them.

It also helps for people, including me, to obey the driving "suggestions."

If they want to get a no parking zone in front of their business they have to apply to the municipality and the transitos for a permit, pay their $1600P per year fee and then paint their curb yellow with all the relevant permit #'s clearly displayed. That is what I have done and it works well.

For sure Chapala has a parking problem, and I'm certain Ajijic also, especially with the new bike lane. How are people to park to go to a business on the main street?

There are several public parking lots in Ajijic. I guess people may have to start using them.

There are some rules about how many per section of street etc but we had a private license for many years. Eventually it just became impossible to enforce because of the restaurant directly on our street and the hotel at the lake end. Short of putting up physical barriers which would allow us to negotiate our vehicle in and out of the garage we would have had to have cars towed nightly, several times. WE do have friends who put up the physical barriers and are very happy with the system for their car.

We are in Chapala and just completed the renewal process for our dedicated, handicapped space and it was much more simple than before.  Write the letter to transito with a photo of the front of the house, address, justification for needing the space - a letter from Seguro Popular or IMSS DOCTOR...wait about 15 working days, then get letter of approval from Transito and go to permit dept at city hall & pay a little over $1600 MX.  Then you have to paint the curb and get the letrero and put the permit number on it and "plant" it at the front of your space.  YIPPEE!!!
We also have to go to DIF and get the handicap hanger for the rear view mirror.

I'm getting the impression that it needs to be by/at your house/business. You can't just "squat" a place on the main street.

Yes, it can only be directly in front of your house or business. It is like a lease. Mine states I have exclusive use of 12 meters x 2 meters.
