See, this is what confuses me, Gringal. You cheer Slainte’s definition, one with which I would agree, but still say the term is offensive. Isn’t it a harmless joshing of what is admittedly a reality in some/many cases? So, though you declined to state what you find offensive in the term, I am assuming it is what Brigette said. It is when it is used as a pejorative that it becomes offensive. With that I would agree. I do not have to take offense to see when someone is intending it to be an insult. It is sort of dumb, silly, and not just a little adolescent but the people using it that way seem to think it is the height of sophisticated humor.

Sar-chasm: The distance between the words and the meaning.
You might as well forget it, Lady O...I'm not falling for it.

The real meaning of the terms "gringo and gringolandia" is known only to those who say them.

Sounds like your b.s. detector is in good working order.

Re: New Wine shop and Deli
To get this thread back on topic.....I stopped at La Vid a couple of weeks ago to have a glass of wine. Unfortunately, they served me a glass of merlot that was served as cold as a glass of ice water. Not impressed! I gave him some tips on what temperatures different wines need to be served at. He thanked me, and said he hadn't been taught about proper serving temperatures. Haven't been back yet, but I hope that all of the staff have been trained on this issue.

Wow. Cold Merlot. No training. Think I'll just stay with Paz.

Can't buy a glass of anything at PAZ, warm or cold!

Too true. Plus, I have a few complaints about the way the wines are stored, over-the-hill white wines on the shelves and other minor stuff which has made me prefer the wine seller in West Ajijic across from the big gym. They recently had a 15% off sale throughout most of the store, which is always endearing.

You're right about that.
I saw a sign over the east end of El Barco building yesterday saying Pancho something something Deli. Perhaps the part I missed was Wine Bar!

How about Tommy Thompson's wine bar? Does it compete with the new place?
