Emma's Deli
Anybody been to it? I've gone twice and the pastrami at least, which I had both times is excellent but better yet is the light Jewish rye it's served with. I have no idea where they get it but this little place across from Tabarka is well worth a visit. The sandwich is really hefty and the total bill, if I remember correctly is 110 pesos with iced tea that was refillable. Usually they have a good agua fresca but yesterday was just iced tea. Nice young couple running it and the place while simple is very attractive. The sides available were cole slaw or potato salad.

Re: Emma's Deli
Been there 2 or 3 times, and it is excellent and I am definitely not a foodie, so praise comes sparingly.
Always order the same....reuben pastrami sandwich and the chicken motzah ball soup. It is so good that it made me accuse the young Mexican couple of really being the offspring of some New York Jewish deli operator.

Re: Emma's Deli
Lunched there today and was very pleased with the matzo ball soup. Best this side of New York or L.A.
The Reuben and the Pastrami we ordered were good, but I prefer a little less "chewy" meat, so it's corned beef next time or one of the other sandwiches on the chalk board. Choices include chicken and patty melts with new ones to come, according to the owner.
Potato salad or cole slaw come with, and they're both good.
We'll be back.

Ramon Corona in Ajijic, North of the LCS corner. West side of the street, across from the new Tabarka location and North of the old Simply Thai.SunshineyDay wrote:Where is the location?

Re: Emma's Deli
I have also been hearing very good things about Emma's. They were cooking what smelled like chicken noodle soup there yesterday. Hmmmmm.......

Went to Emma's today. Ordered cheese dogs. They are humongous!
This is for the seriously hungry. Excellent dogs with caramelized onions and lots of cheese. Side choices of coleslaw or potato salad; both good.
70 pesos. (Such a deal.)

Re: Emma's Deli
Went to Emma's today for the second time. I am blown away. Had my favorite deli sandwich, pastrami on rye (that fabulous jewish rye mentioned above) with swiss cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing. PLUS CHEESECAKE!! The woman makes fabulous cheesecake!
Not only do I want to encourage everyone who has ever been to Katz's Deli, 2nd Street Deli, or Opera Deli to try this, I also want to keep it alive here forever. It is fabulous. Please patronize them, compliment them and welcome them. You will not regret it. P.S.: Corned beef is coming soon!

Without a doubt the items they serve are the best around here and would hold their own in any market at any location in the world.

I agree. It's excellent and the young couple running it are delightful.

You do realize that is a cultural faux pas?
(Just kidding, but it reminded me of ordering meat sandwiches at a deli in Toronto where they'd ask if I wanted butter on it. It was more polite than asking if I was Jewish.)

Re: Emma's Deli
This Mexican couple running the restaurant should have the "Star of David" flying over the entry.
It's that good in my opinion.
Just look the other way when they mix dairy and meat.
