Such is Life
As it turns out, according to news broadcasts I watched this morning on Mexican National Television, 90 Percent of buildings that collapsed in Mexico City during last week's earthquake were constructed prior to the 1985 imposition of new, stricter building codes augmented after the 1985 disastrous earthquake that took so many lives and caused so much damage to the city's infrastructure. We live in Chiapas as well as at Lake Chapala. At Lake Chapala, where we happened to be at the time of the quake,, we felt nothing at all but who knows about Chiapas which is a seismically active area. Serious structural damage is not always evident to laypersons.
