What are you getting down and up with TelMex? What do your neighbors do?

not sure down and up, But one of the neighbors actually suggested spider web as another option. I have had it for a month and it does worse than Telmex.

Go to Ookla.com and run a speed test. What is your Download number and your Upload number? I'm below you in SA and my internet tonight is probably 3 down. So slow I couldn't even load the ookla page.

Do you have a tablet? I use portables instead of my PC, wifi is much faster.

http://www.speedtest.net/

Do not ask me why I have such blazing speeds (19.43 mps down and 3.5 mps up) here in lower Riberas on the 599 peso plan. I absolutely don't know. But, after having absolutely miserable service for 7 months and no help from Telmex, I called Jose Luis (cell phone 331-326-4662) and, for 300 pesos, he checked ALL  my connections. He found, around the corner and at the top of a pole, a plastic box with corroded connections. He stripped the wires and reconnected them and voila. He also did the same for my neighbour whose connection was in the same box.
It may help or it may not but it's worth a try because Telmex is not going to actually physically check connections. I would have thought it was their job to maintain these connections but ? Evil or Very Mad

Uuuuf That's brutally slow.
Ferret's recommendation would be a good idea.
I have had some luck with TelMex, over the years. One time I brought a screen shot of my Ookla test and the guy said he didn't think there was much he could do but said he'd try something and called TM DF for me. He said to retest when I got home. I did and my speed had bounced back to my normal 5. He then called me to see if there was any change and I was happy to say yes. Don't rule TM out completely in spite of what others say.

I once had a phone issue that remained a problem after two TM visits. Third guy (I was persistent) climbed the pole and found a loose connection. Fixed. Last rainy season I got horrible static on the phone line every time it rained. My handyman was here for another reason and I mentioned it. He went up on the roof and found two wires that rubbed together in the wind. One had cracks in the covering which he repaired with electric tape. Not only have I never again gotten static in the rain, but my internet speed picked up also. It still isn't great but so much better than it was. You just never know.

The guys in DF are very good but what they are doing is within the system. If it's a PHYSICAL problem then they can't help... and the local Telmex guys simply won't help because, heaven forbid, they may have to make some effort. That's the difference.

Jose says he does not feel he could really help. He said he wanted to be honest that he does not think he could help with speed that problem is within the actual internet system.

A couple of months ago an over height truck tore down my Telmex line which crosses over the street. I went to Telmex and told them what happened. She said the tech would come out in 3 to 5 days to fix it. Well the very next morning the tech showed up and he not only replaced the whole line but he also took off the cover where the main lines connect with the household lines and cleaned all the connections. My internet connection has been a steady 10MBPS down ever since.

That's awesome Bob! Did you get the guy's name and number? Sounds like he's worth his weight in gold.

Sorry about Jose Luis not being able to help Joyfullone. At one time in his career, he used to work for Telmex so he may well be aware that Chula Vista has other problems that he can't fix. It was worth a try any way.

Joyfullone, go to TM with a screenshot of your Ookla test. The speed you are getting isn't even dial-up speed. I like the guy with curly hair and glasses, he's really nice, bilingual if you need it, and he's the one who called me to see if my speed was better. I thought that was very nice of him.

Forgot to mention he also said if what he was going to do didn't work, I might have to consider "the other one". I said, "you mean Telecable?". He looked over his glasses at me and grinned.

Failing all this, are you renting???  Very Happy
